“Wonderful”
Reviewed 15 June 2015 for a stay in June 2015

Like all previous reviews we had high expectations and were not disappointed. David gave us a warm welcome and showed us round our spacious Gite and how well appointed it was. Two separate bedrooms a large cool lounge and a welcome sun lounge leading on to private gardens with views over the valley.
David arranged Dinner for us at the Envie Restaurant in the village which was exceptionally good. The walk is pleasant though the walk back uphill a bit steep after a d,rink or three.
The area is sublime and as we had two large dogs with us we loved the river and swimming in the cool water.
We could not fault any aspect and would highly recommend this property

“Our 2nd stay and we are sure we want to return”
Reviewed 19 August 2014 for a stay in August 2014

We stayed here for a week in 2012 and returned in Aug 2014 for 2 weeks. The gite is a delight with everything you could need. It was spotlessly clean and very comfortable. The area is beautiful and we had a wonderful time checking out local towns and villages and exploring the countryside. We are already planning to return at a different time of year to do more walking in the area.
David is a brilliant host, there if you need him and handy for tips on days out or for making bookings, but never obtrusive.
If you are thinking of coming to the area, stay here. We can't recommend the gite highly enough.

“Perfect, most comfortable and pleasant place I've ever stayed”
Reviewed 1 January 2014 for a stay in July 2013

A party of 4 we stayed in this gite for the second time the first time having been in March when it was just my husband and me. The fact we came back should tell you everything. We loved it the first time around and our friends who were with us on the second trip were just as impressed. They agreed with us that is just the most comfortable and charming place to stay. It has everything we could want and David the owner is a charming, helpful but unobtrusive host. The village of St. Pompont is lovely, we were fortunate on our second trip to be there when they have a 'bunfight' on Saturday evenings when tables and benches are set up in the village square and there are stalls you can buy food from. Don't think greasy spoon. think haute cuisine, it is fabulous!! In a village 5 minutes away is a French chef who does cookery courses, my husband is interested so hopefully that means another trip :-) It would be perfect for a group of friends who wanted to combine a holiday with learning French cuisine. Also any artists or walkers as the area is very rural and peaceful, the perfect place to just sit and draw or walk and enjoy the countryside or explore the history of the area which is fascinating.
If you want a comfortable, peaceful, enjoyable holiday in a lovely part of France there can be nowhere better to stay. Thank you David for taking the care to make your gite such a lovely place for people to enjoy their holiday. Hopefully we'll be seeing you again before long!!

“True French countryside location”
Reviewed 4 October 2013 for a stay in September 2013

If you're looking for a very quiet getaway in lovely French countryside, this is the place. Saint Pompon is a small village, and like many around the district, you see very few of the local residents. Maison Mireille is a fairly roomy 'gite', that makes up the end of a much larger house, and enjoys a rustic setting. Good points are the comfortable living areas, and pleasant conservatory and outside eating area (with BBQ). The double room is adequate, but not huge, whereas the twin room is large and airy with two windows opening across valley views. Unfortunately, there's no option for two double beds. The bathrooms are well appointed.
The house has all the basic kitchen and entertainment equipment (including Sky TV), although cutlery and crockery were only just enough for four guests. Curiously, there are no condiments (table sauces, spreads etc), so these must be bought by each renter. David does provide a welcome pack - a very nice touch, but really only enough for a snack with a drink. Strongly suggest that guests pick up their supplies in one of the larger towns en-route to the gite - especially on Sunday when almost everything is shut. (That said, we did find a great little bar in nearby St Laurent that served dinner on Sunday evening). A shop in Daglan 10 minutes away offers well prepared French food for taking back to holiday homes, and is a good option if you like a few wines with dinner! If you feel the need for some gentle excrcise, the walk down to the village boulangerie or small supermarket is lovely in the cool of the morning, but be prepared for a fairly steep stroll back to the gite, and not recommended on hotter days.
The owners are very knowledgable about the region and gladly help plan your stay. There's lots to see, and St Pompon offers a great base for touring the region.

“Like coming home in France”
Reviewed 25 September 2013 for a stay in September 2013

The photos and description in Tripadvisor came to life when we arrived at Maison Mireille! We stayed for the last week of Summer 2013 in this wonderful gite and would return anytime, any season! David, the owner, had a daytrip suggestion for our first day - we immediately got in tune with the pace of country living! He made helpful suggestions throughout the week. Our nearest villages (St Pompon & Daglan) - you wont find them in a tourist guide or easily on a map, but we discovered them bit by bit and what gems they are! We attended the last Saturday night village festival in St Pompon: amazing experience! We really enjoyed our stay in the Perigord Noir. It's central enough- we did 2 day trips from here.(St Emilion & Rocamodour) Returning to a wonderful place at the end of an exploring day!
