“The Perfect Retreat”
Reviewed 25 July 2016 for a stay in July 2016

We have recently returned from a perfect week away at la Pilette, I traveled with my wife and 6 month old son and the facilities were perfect. The gite is located in a quite countryside picturesque location and we enjoyed our walks around the local area, exploring the countryside and local villages as well as out time in Orbec a charming small town which is a short drive away and had everything we needed. We traveled to some of the d day beaches as well as to Suisse Normande all of which were very accessible.
Dining alfresco at La Pilette is a must and evening birdsong provided the perfect soundtrack to the amazing local produce that we enjoyed in the outside seating area, whilst staring at the beautiful garden with the corn field behind. The child friendly gite was beautiful both inside and out and our hosts Sally and Neil provided everything we needed to ensure that our son’s stay was comfortable and safe (baby gates, highchair, cot and baby-bath) the washing machine and dishwasher were much appreciated by us travelling with a baby. Sally and Neil were on-hand when we needed them, but gave us peace and space at all other times which was lovely. Sitting back in the UK writing this I am already wishing I was back there… We are already talking about returning.

“It's becoming our second home!”
Reviewed 22 June 2016 for a stay in June 2016

This was our fourth visit to La Pilette and the place just seems to get better & better each time we stay!

This year, we enjoyed days out in Orbec (a brilliant festival recommended by Sally & Neil - thank you, otherwise we would never have known), Bernay (great park there for children), Deauville (our first visit - stunning beach & just under an hour to drive there) and Honfleur.

Our two children are almost 5 and 2.5 yrs old. Sally & Neil are so accommodating to ensure we have everything we need to make our stay a relaxing and easy one - stair gates are provided, a full size cot bed (which is v much appreciated), children's cutlery, plates & cups & a high chair if required.

The cabin in the garden is an absolute gem; packed full of toys, books, pencils & crayons, a paddling pool & even a small pool table, it really did ensure our children were never bored. The garden itself is wonderful and so well maintained.

The kitchen is so well stocked with everything you could possibly need to cook lovely meals and we were lucky enough to have great weather so we could eat outside.

We are already planning our next visit so I really can't recommend La Pilette highly enough.

“Peaceful and relaxing”
Reviewed 15 April 2016 for a stay in April 2016

My wife and I stayed at La Pilete for a short break, (5 nights). From arrival to departure nothing was too much trouble for Sally and Neil. The cottage had everything we needed and the arrival pack of essentials ( Milk etc) was most welcome. Upstairs there are two bedrooms , 1 x double and 1 x 2 singles. My wife sometimes struggles with stairs but had no problems at the cottage, there is also a bed settee in the sitting room if needed.
The nearest supermarket is very close and on the road to Orbec where there is also a Vet who will be needed to stamp any Pet Passport . There are plenty of places to visit including the D-Day beaches, Bayeaux is about 1hour 45 mins away.

We would like to stay at La Pilette again, it's an easy drive from Calais -about 3 to 3.5 hrs .

“A really rural relaxing retreat!”

Me, my wife and our 2 children (ages 4 and 8) spent a lovely week at La Pilette (18-25th July 2015). It sounded ideal on tripadvisor and my only concern was the lack of recent reviews. We decided to give it a go anyway and we were not disappointed ... Neil and Sally had personalised the large children's play cabin by placing a sign on its door and there were so many playthings inside that the kids declared it the best holiday ever, soon after arriving! The cottage is next to N & S's house - this was perfect as we had access to immediate assistance if required as well as ample privacy as the gite is set in its own garden with a central lawn and mature plants and trees around. The kitchen was stocked with a few items on our arrival (thanks!) and the nearest large supermarket was under a 10 minute drive away in the fairly large settlement of Orbec. Extensive arable fields surrounded us and there was a real tranquility about our stay - it felt a little like travelling back in time. The cottage is stocked with pretty much everything you could want - English TV, power shower, fridge freezer etc,. Neil even brought us over a coffee maker.
We visited the animal sanctuary at Dame Blanche as well as the zoo (Cerza). Both felt like quite intimate experiences with the creatures welfare being top priority. We also visited Honfleur (about 1h15mins in the car) although just walking around the local towns (Broglie, Orbec and Bernay) and having lunch was probably the highlight for all of us. All had river walks and parks to explore.
We also spent a few hours in Rouen on our way home - its historic parts, river walks and the Joan of Arc connection were all interesting.
So, having had such a brilliant holiday I thought the least I could so was to write a review - this is the first I've ever written for a holiday but I thought it would make it easier for future holidaymakers to choose La Pilette.

“Very nice few days”
Reviewed 26 May 2015 for a stay in May 2015

My girlfriend and I really enjoyed our stay here, it is a beautiful Gite in a lovely area of Normandy. The Gite was comfy and had everything we needed and the garden was stunning, the dog absolutely loved running around and playing with his ball. There's a small village, Orbec, about a 10 minute drive away. We drove to Omaha Beach, Caen and Rouen from the Gite so its a good base if you want to travel around, all of these places were easy to get to.

Only thing that stopped me giving this 5* was that we killed about 10 spiders the day we got there and got rid of cobwebs that were in every corner. Wasn't a big problem but a bit annoying!

Thank you Sally and Neil for a lovely stay, I wouldn't hesitate in coming back
