We would like to thank the Richmond Hill Hotel and all it's staff for making our wedding day on Saturday 19th August 2017 such a beautiful and successful day. We couldn't have asked for a more perfect day. The venue, especially the ballroom was breathtaking, the location, delicious food and attentive, friendly staff involved helped to make this a day we will not forget. Special thanks to our enthusiastic wedding co-ordinator Danni, who made the whole wedding planning process an easy and enjoyable one where nothing was ever too much trouble with our endless questions, changes and demands. Pedro and his team including Gonzales, were fantastic on the day and went above and beyond. It was all the attention to detail behind the scenes and efforts of everyone involved that pulled off such a great day for us. Thank you Richmond Hill Hotel.

Set your expectation that the hotel is a bit old. When you're in the room you can hear the floor squeezing but regardless the hotel staff is friendly and located close Richmond park and river. Its 20 mins walk to Richmond town but the walk is definitely enjoyable. I love walking by the river- its like a movie scene.
Housekeeping is good. Breakfast is good but the reception prompt response can ve an area for improvement.

Dear guest,

Thank you for your review, we are pleased you enjoyed your time with us.The Hotel is indeed old having stood on Richmond Hill now for over 200 years! Our location is unique and every day brings a new view to enjoy from the Terrace.

We are always training and developing the team in the Hotel so will look to review our response times at the desk. As a point of interest, the Terrace is regularly used for filming, so your comment about being on a movie set was very true.

Thank you once again for your feedback,

kind regards

My husband and I decided to visit the Richmond Hill Hotel to celebrate our first wedding anniversary. We found a deal on Secret Escapes which gave us a stop over at the hotel along with dinner in Pembrokes Restaurant and breakfast.

Check-in isn't until 3pm but we arrived earlier than this as we were going to explore Richmond Park which is no more than a 5 minute walk away. When we arrived the car park was full and so we were left driving around waiting for someone to leave, eventually we got lucky and managed to get a space but there were a number of other guests driving around the hotel car-park trying to find a spot and with the space being a little restricted, it can make navigating your way around the car-park a little challenging. If at all possible, we'd recommend you leave the car at home if staying here.

When checking-in we were told that we could either wait for a room or we could take a room that was ready but was on the ground floor. We asked if there was any difference in the rooms and were told that there wasn't and so we decided to take the room on the ground floor. As part of our booking we got a Hill Collection Suite which we were led to believe was better than an average room at the hotel however, upon entering, we both commented that; as we've both stayed in suites before, the hotel is pushing it referring to these rooms as "suites".

The room was clean and spacious. There is a sofa and desk area, a large bed with a unit at the end which houses the TV and fridge, in the entrance area to the room is a wardrobe, drawers and the tea/coffee facilities and, of course, there is the bathroom.

We were hoping to get one of the suites which had the nice bath-tubs however the ground-floor room is an accessible room and so had a wet-room shower rather than a cubicle and no bath. We also noticed that the hinges on the toilet seat were chipped and the toilet itself didn't feel as though it was properly attached to the wall but this hardly ruined our stay.

The pros: The room was very clean, the fixtures and fittings were of good quality and the bed was nice and big...and comfortable! The Sky TV package was a nice touch as was the addition of a Nespresso machine.

The cons: The room was very stuffy and so we put on the air conditioning however, either the room is too big for the unit or the unit itself just isn't very good as it only made the entrance area to the room cooler, everywhere else; especially the bathroom, was very stuffy/muggy which meant we had to open the windows which then meant we had the noise from the car-park and the vent/fan units from the kitchens.

We needed to do some ironing before our evening meal however we had an ironing board but no iron. We called reception and explained the iron was missing and they told us they'd get another one to us. Two and a half hours later and the iron still hadn't appeared so we had to call again at which point one was brought to the room within five or so minutes.

The tea/coffee facilities include a Nespresso machine however, there are only 3 pods provided for the machine and they're all different which meant compromising or going without. We also only had one pack of sugar each and the spoons were dirty which, for the money we'd paid for this suite, was disappointing and we didn't want to have to make a third call to reception to get the stocks replenished after just one drink.

Our evening meal was spent in the Pembrokes Restaurant, which was really nice and I've covered that in a separate review.

Breakfast is buffet-style, was plentiful and pretty tasty. The tea and coffee was freshly made and this is hands-down the only hotel I've stayed in which has managed to keep fried eggs under a heat-lamp without the yolks drying out, so good work!!

Check out was at 11am and we got there at around 10:45 to find a queue and what appeared to be a fairly disorganised approach. There were people trying to jump the queue to check-out which isn't the fault of the hotel but the fact people we trying to jump the queue shows that things were a little chaotic and people were getting frustrated. Our check-out was straight-forward and we were soon on our way.

Overall we enjoyed our stay at the Richmond Hill Hotel and it was nice to get away from the hustle and bustle of daily life for our first wedding anniversary. That said; we were left disappointed by the "suite" and considering the money we paid for one night at the hotel, even if it did include a 2-course meal, we did leave feeling a little short-changed.

We booked a one night stay through Secret Escapes. Large suite with two-course dinner and breakfast included. The hotel has a good location at the top of Richmond Hill so a pleasant stroll to town with stunning park views. Our suite was large and modern with a freestanding bath in the bedroom. A spotless shower room. Safe, fridge, coffee pod machine (though stingy with the pods - three between two people?!).
The bar area is a little soulless so we walked along to a pub then returned to the hotel for dinner. The service was incredibly slow. We waited 20 mins for a drink and almost an hour before our starter arrived. Staff were cheery but clearly under pressure. Four extra glasses of wine we didn't have were added to our bill. The food was very good - well cooked and attractively presented.
We slept well. Some aircraft noise as you'd expect. Breakfast again inefficient. We were told to wait in the bar area with several other couples as no tables were available! Really not good enough. Again the food (buffet) was very tasty. Hot, fresh, plentiful.
All in all we had a pleasant stay slightly let down by the chaotic restaurant service.

Dear Guest

Thank you for your review, it is lovely to read how you explored the local area, it is so beautiful. We do appreciate your constructive comments regarding service in the restaurant and have endeavoured to provide a larger work force at busy times to speed up the service.

I am delighted that you did enjoy the food served throughout your stay.

Mix up with booking (on the hotels part) at check in that took an inordinate amount if time to sort out and reverberated across the weekend requiring us to check out and check back in again. Reception staff constantly overwhelmed leading to frustration at checkout/check-in. Booked because of proximity to the purpose of our visit and spa, which was constantly full. Hotel itself okay but we were located on fifth floor which meant walking around a warren of corridors and then up a further flight of stairs from 4th floor. Parking large but difficult to get a space. Barr staff friendly and efficient. On the whole recommended - good location - but be aware of the above comments.
