How problems are dealt with and the issue of PHONE SIGNAL AND WIFI
Unfortunately during our stay the boiler broke down. Of course these things do happen but what we feel is unacceptable is the lack of contact put in place at the house. There was no signal at all on our phones and the Welcome information says that there are only certain networks that receive "some signal" - vodafone and EE.

So in an emergency, the owner had placed an emergency phone in a cupboard. However, there was no credit on this phone and so we had to drive out at 10pm to get a signal to leave a message. We did not know how long to wait - would anyone ring back? - after 10 minutes of waiting we went back to the home. We picked up the message left responding to our call once we had left for a day out the following day - once there was a signal - a very long way from the bungalow.
We feel that this is wholly unacceptable. The signal issue is clearly a common problem when we looked through the Guest Book. Measures should be in place that actually work in situations like this.

WIFI
The information for this house did not make clear there was no wifi when we were looking to stay somewhere. We only found this out when we specifically asked when ringing up - so yes we did know when we booked. However, we naively thought that we could connect via our phones and when we asked the staff at the point of booking we were told that most people who stay are elderly and don't want wifi plus they got a signal on their phone. However, as we now know, there is a huge signal issue around this area which everyone knows about so we feel very misled by this. It should be stated clearly on the advert which networks work for phone signals. And we cannot understand why wifi has not been installed since this is something most people will expect and need to use on a daily basis. As I run an online business it caused us no end of issues. Looking through the Guest Book comments it seems that the lack of a phone signal and wifi was an issue for many people.

DECOR
We have stayed in many holiday places over the years but this place was really by far the worst. There is no underlay under the majority of the carpet. In fact, that carpet is so old it was there before the owners bought the property - a quick google will confirm that. Thankfully the living room had new and underlayed carpet but the bedrooms need it too and the hallway needs attention as it is very worn and feels dirty.
On the plus side, the bathroom was probably the nicest room in the entire place.

REFUSE
The rubbish situation needs addressing. The notice board explained that rubbish is taken once a fortnight. It did not say which week we were in. There are no arrangements in place for the rubbish to be taken if it is not and since the collection is on a Tuesday there is still a number of days rubbish to deal with by the time of departure. The noticeboard makes clear that we are NOT to leave any rubbish in the house and we should dispose of it before leaving. This does not seem right at all. We are on holiday and do not expect to have to drive around with a weeks worth of rubbish to find somewhere appropriate to put it. Cleaners being on foot and unable to take rubbish is simply not good enough.

OTHER ISSUES
There was no washing up liquid which is the first place we have ever stayed in that does not have any (we left the one we bought for the following guests). Many of the tall drinking glasses had chips in them. And a few more cleaning cloths would have been useful. Plus there were not enough internal rubbish bags to put in the bins after emptying the ones already there.

CONCLUSION
What we paid for the week was not cheap but what we got did not match the price asked. We don't expect luxury but we do expect a certain standard and this was very far from it. I understand that the owners may not have wanted to spend time and money in putting the little touches in which many other places take pride and enjoyment in doing but what was there was not a good enough standard.

Thank you for taking the time to write such a long and detailed review.

Yes unfortunately a day after your arrival the boiler developed a problem which you reported very late on the Saturday evening. Your message was picked up first thing Sunday morning and passed on to the owner straight away and he contacted the plumber. Unfortunately due to a large sporting event and road closures on the Sunday, the plumber was unable to get to you until late afternoon. The boiler was then fixed.

Regarding the mobile signal, yes it appears some guests have had difficulty with their network provider, however from 46 guest reviews in the property Guest Book…only one other guest has written that this is a problem.
WiFi…as you were aware when making your booking, the property does not have wifi. It’s not for us to question why an owner has chosen not to install wifi. If guests want a property with wifi then they will book one with that facility. As only two previous guests from the 46 Guest Book reviews have mentioned that wifi would be an added bonus…it appears the majority of guests have been happy without it and neither “expect” it or “need” it on a daily basis.

Refuse. This has been a slight issue recently (not only in this property) due to the change in location of the large refuse disposal site (now out of town) and unfortunately it would appear that not all the old information had been removed etc prior to your stay.

Carpets. The owner has responded to you regarding this and has explained that they are carrying out improvements to the property season by season and felt that this year the lounge carpet was more important as guests tend to spend more time here than in the bedrooms, and they have also made some improvements to the back garden. No previous guests have felt the carpets are an issue.

The other issues you mentioned (washing up liquid & bin bags etc) are unfortunate (cleaner probably didn't have spares on her at the time or she may have previously put a new one in and someone else took it home with them - it does happen!)and have been addressed. It is unfair and unnecessary to make reference to the owners not wanting to spend time and money in adding little touches to the property. The owners (who live away), have been spending money on the property sinse they bought it and have made sure the important items such as beds and bedding etc (mentioned many times in the visitors book!)are of great quality and comfort!
They apologise for the fact that on your arrival the small items such as washing up liquid and some extra cleaning cloths etc were missing, but this was not due to them not wanting to spend on these items or not wanting to put them in the property.

We are disappointed that on this occasion your experience at this property was not a positive one, especially when so many other guests (46 of them in the guest book and 8 very good/excellent TripAdvisor reviews) have had such a lovely time there and written such positive reviews.

Thank you once again for taking the time to review this property. Holiday Connections Ltd

“perfectly suited our needs”
Reviewed 6 July 2015 for a stay in July 2015

The bungalow was accurately described. It was spotlessly clean & well equipped. The garden was neat and outdoor furniture available. It was well situated for Tenby & other sights in Pembrokeshire. Buses & trains were close by if needed. The bed was comfortable and all furnishings were of good quality. We were pleased with our choice.

Liked best: nice beds,
Liked least: being told to hoover and clean and strip beds on leaving , and take your rubbish to tip and recycle centre , bit over the top after paying to rent for a week ,i would have thought leaving it in just clean and tidy condition should be enough.

Thank you for your review and yes unfortunately the weather wasn't particularly good that week. There is a welcome folder left by the owners which I believe has details of when the refuse gets collected, otherwise the cleaner will take it and there are keys on a key hook in a kitchen cupbpard and the one for the shed should have been in there. Regarding mobile phone signal, no previous guests have commented about poor signal, and I know for certain that Vodafone also works there. Many thanks once again for your coments. Kind regards, Holiday Connections Ltd
