Wonderful location. Cottage was well equipped and comfortable. Only comment is that it couldn’t been cleaner - lots of dust above eye level, cobwebs and skirting boards needed a wipe down. Decor was wonderful, the fire pit a delight even in February and the beds were comfortable.
Really enjoyed our stay and exploring the Cairngorms.
If you are looking for a beautiful cottage to get aways from it all then this really is perfection. The cottage is lush, with underfloor heating in the kitchen and bathroom, a lovely woodburningnatove in the livingroom, and even Netflix on the telly if you get stuck in and fancy a film. The trains going past didn't disturb on them slightest (quite the opposite, they were a lovely addition to the feel of the place).
There are a few things to be aware of:
- Kingussie has no taxi service. It stopped running very recently. I had phoned the next nearest taxi service the day before and was told that they would book from Kingussie train station to the cottage without extra costs and was strongly assured that there was "no problem" and that we can call them "any time 24/7" with no pre-booking necessary. However, on the day when I called the same number it was a completely different story - first saying that to pick us up they would charge the taxi from Aviemore, then that they couldn't be bothered doing it right now and would leave Aviemore an hour later, then changing story to say that they don't do pickups from Kingussie. The locals were super friendly and offered to ask about to see if they could find someone to run us along the road (we couldn't walk as we were travelling with someone who was pregnant), and we considered hitchhiking. Thankfully the local school bus runs straight from the bus stop outside the Gullies Rest to the door of the cottage. That said, if you plan to leave the car at home do try look up this bus as it only runs once/day.
- FAO strict vegans: there are sheepskin rugs.
This is a beautifully decorated cottage in a beautiful part of the world. Although, the railway runs right beside the house, it isn't very busy with about two trains per hour and they don't run through the night so we didn't find it to be a problem and actually enjoyed the trains going past as it's quite unusual. There's lots to do and see nearby and the cottage is equipped with everything you could possibly need. We would highly recommend.
This is a lovely cottage just outside Lynchat near Kingussie. It is warm, quite, clean and has all the mod cons for a perfect getaway. Close to the railway but the trains hardly disturb you as they're few and far between. The cows and geese in the field close by we're a perfect addition and loved by our older kids.
