We had an awesome stay at the Red Gap Cottage. Three adult couples stayed here for practice week of the Isle of Man TT and the cottage was perfect for us, it had all the amenities we needed for a week long stay. The kitchen was well equipped with everything we needed to make a nice dinner. The bedrooms were large and comfortable. The large bathroom upstairs with a shower and a tub suited the six of us just fine, there is also a powder room on the main floor which comes in handy when the upstairs bathroom is busy. The cottage was large enough so that we could all enjoy time together or spend time on our own.
The Isle of Man was absolutely gorgeous, better than expected. We loved all the villages we visited and had great food at the pubs as well. The cottage is located in Castletown and had everything we needed within walking distance.
The people on the island are very friendly, while we were eating fish and chips sitting on a rock wall in the village of Ramsey a very nice lady came out and asked us if we wanted to use her patio which was very unexpected, there are not a lot of places in the world now where something like that would happen.
Dealing with Kim was great, despite having to deal with an eight hour time difference between us, everything worked out perfectly.
I would strongly recommend the Red Gap Cottage and would gladly stay there again if we were ever to go back to the Isle of Man.
We were here for the TT, so admittedly besides sleeping we didn't spend too much time inside the cottage!
Nonetheless, we found it to be an ideal experience, very pleasant with no complaints whatsoever. All 3 bedrooms are very comfortable with lots of storage for luggage etc. The views to the rear and from the garden are absolutely stunning. Everything we needed inside was there, from good WiFi to a well equipped kitchen. Finally, the location for my taste literally couldn't be more perfect - it's slightly away from the centre of Castletown which makes it feel extremely peaceful, yet it's in fact barely a 5 minute walk into the centre. Right by the cottage you have bus stops to take you into Douglas one way and Port Erin the other... which means you also have effortless direct connections to the airport and the railway station in Castletown. And on top of all that, you have a swimming pool 2 minutes' walk away which for us was a great way to start the days.
Kim was a pleasure to deal with throughout and kept the whole process very clear and organised.
This homely cottage was spotlessly clean and extremely well equipped with some thoughtful personal touches. The welcome pack which included essentials such as milk and butter and a bottle of wine was appreciated and a nice gesture. The location is good - the cottage is on a main road but there was no traffic noise at all and we never had a problem parking both our party's cars at the front of the cottage. The cottage is within easy walking distance of the historic centre of Castletown. Everyone in our party commented on how comfortable the beds are.
The bathroom was very clean and spacious but unfortunately the temperature dial on the main shower did not work. The water temperature was scalding hot; we could not get any cold water to come through and the shower was unusable. There was a shower head over the bath but that was not ideal, particularly as we were on the island for my daughter to take part in a sporting event and she couldn't have a proper shower when she got back to the cottage. The owner did try and resolve the issue but as it was a bank holiday weekend unfortunately no plumbers were able to come out.
There were quite a few ants in the kitchen and the WiFi did not work, but I have let the owner know about these issues too. The owner, Kim, is very attentive and professional and I have no doubt that the issues we encountered will have been resolved quickly.
All in all we enjoyed a very pleasant stay and we would recommend Red Gap Cottage to anyone looking for accommodation in Castletown.
Kim was brilliant to deal with from the first moment. There were lovely touches in the cottage, fresh flowers, a welcome basket, spare toiletries and the cottage itself was cosy and warm. Beds were very comfortable and the kitchen extremely well equipped. We found Castletown a great place to stay with some good places to eat and some great pubs! Kim was at the end of the phone if there was a problem and had thought of everything, even shoe polish! And there were full instructions for all the appliances.
We loved the Isle of Man, the people were so friendly and there is lots to do. Great walks nearby too.
Every amenity you could need has been considered, standard of cleanliness and decor very high. Kim the owner is very helpfull. Weather not too good during our stay, but that didn't matter as we had such a comfortable cottage which was piping hot within 10 mins of putting the heating on, perfect place to dry out.
Thank you for a lovely holiday Kim.
