We did the steam train and river cruise. We got the half past ten train from Paignton. You park in the main station car park and then walk around to where the steam train departs from. It was half an hour on the train down to Kingswear with a few stops going along the beautiful coast. You then get straight on to the passenger ferry and that takes you over to Dartmouth.

We then boarded the ferry for a one hour cruise up and back down the river Dart. There was some interesting commentary on the way pointing out some facts about the area.

We then got around two and a half hours to look around Dartmouth before getting back on the passenger ferry back to Kingswear ready for the 3.10 train back to Paignton.

Everyone had a great day. Well worth it.

We started at Paignton and took the train followed by the ferry to Dartmouth.

It was a very pleasant trip and the kids enjoyed the Easter fun trying to spot the letters on route.

We visited pre Easter and whilst chilly it was bright and sunny. We visited Churston station and spotted Braveheart undergoing (we presumed) steam safety valve tests for the new season and whilst there the US Engine passed throughwith the afternoon train to Kingswear.

Took the Round Robin tour from Dartmouth via Paignton to Totnes then the ferry home. A truly wonderful way to spend the day seeing the local area as a family and the dog came too. Super welcoming staff, very courteous and helpful with recommendations for restaurants and local museums. A great day out.

The smell and sound of steam is so evocative taking me back to my childhood and school days. A great, well maintained steam railway set in some picturesque scenery and a joy to travel on. Very busy but with a regular service between Kingswear and Paighton or if you wish to see more a round trip taking in not only steam but boat and coach. A great day out.
