“A very relaxing place to stay”
Reviewed 23 October 2016 for a stay in October 2016

We had a fantastic time staying at the Butterfly cottage. The cottage is well kept and has fantastic views over the valley. We enjoyed sitting on the balcony with a glass of wine or two whilst admiring the view. There is plenty to do and see around the area. The Beamish Museum is well worth a visit as is the High/Low force waterfall. We also spent the day in Durham and visited the cathedral and the castle which were most enjoyable. We enjoyed a delicious afternoon tea at the teadelicious tea rooms in Durham. We also enjoyed pub meals at the Lord Crew arms at Blanchland and the Allenshead arms at Allesnhead. Thank you to Anita and Bruce for the gifts. We would highly recommend this place to family and friends.

“Amazing stay yet again”
Reviewed 11 October 2016 for a stay in October 2016

Wonderful as always - this was our 6th stay. A fabulous home from home. Everything that you need for a comfortable stay is there waiting to be enjoyed. The bed is so comfy, bathroom perfect, washing machine in vestibule just off the bathroom. Lounge area so homely with lots of lovely quaint pictures and memorabilia. Superb kitchen area, again with everything on hand, liked the new fridge freezer. Everything is spotless throughout the cottage.Bruce's home made bread went down a treat as always and we enjoyed the little bottles of wine, the chocolates and flowers, fantastic thoughtful extra touches. Mysty the collie was happy to munch on some of the dog treats, also provided. Anita and Bruce are brilliant hosts and so welcoming. Really enjoyed catching up with them again, and all their gorgeous collies. All in all - perfection and tranquility. We will be back xxxxx

“Lovely remote location”
Reviewed 13 September 2016 for a stay in September 2016

A cosy cottage in a secluded location, perfect for a quiet few days away. Wish we'd had more chance to go for some longer walks. Plenty of pleasant local villages and Newcastle is only an hour away should you want to explore wider.

Thank you for your review and we are so pleased you enjoyed your stay at Butterfly Cottage. A car is a must unless guests just want to chill out and walk the hills locally. High Force is about 15 minutes away and local restaurants are dotted along the Wear valley in most of the villages with a good selection within a 20 minute radius. As the cottage is on the Northumberland, Durham and Cumbrian borders the main cities and towns of Newcastle/Gateshead, Durham, Penrith, Carlisle, Hexham and Darlington are all within an hours drive away so for people wanting to dip into several counties the cottage is well located.
