“Ideal and genuine 5 star cottage to stay for visiting the North East”
Reviewed 8 June 2015 for a stay in June 2015

We stayed for nine nights and had a wonderful stay. The cottage is has everything you could possibly need in terms of facilities but it would be useful to have a "Welcome To The Cottage" booklet which is the norm elsewhere.

Another minor point that may be of interest to some visitors, is that the step down in both bathrooms is quite high and we considered it an "accident waiting to happen", especially in the dead of night!

However, the hosts were very friendly and the welcome pack was very well received after our long journey from Kent.

When we arrived the cottage was spotless and was extremely well decorated with no expense spared.

This is the perfect location for touring the North East and we would book again without even looking elsewhere.

Thank you for your complimentary review. We welcome any feedback to enable us to make our guests stay even more enjoyable. The 'Welcome to the Cottage' is a good idea and one which we will look into. You are the first guests to mention that the height of the step into the ensuite bathrooms may be an issue. The step itself is marginally higher than a step on a staircase, however as a grade 2 listed cottage we did have planning restrictions on what we could, and could not do when we fully refurbished the property. The light switch is ouside the entrance door and the step itself being a different colour make it more visible. We are pleased you had a wonderful stay and we would hope to see you on a return visit.

“Wonderful Place”
Reviewed 29 April 2015 for a stay in February 2015

We stayed here for 3 nights whilst visiting our Son who is studying in Durham. For previous trips we have stayed in a variety of hotels and B&B's in and around Durham, but have to say that this was by far the nicest place we have ever stayed. The house itself is incredibly well appointed and spacious, a real home from home. The location is also excellent just a few minutes drive from Durham but also close to the moor and hills. We did a day trip to High Force waterfalls from here - and had a great walk in the early spring Sun. The owners were pleasant and helpful and we will definitely plan on staying here again the next time we are in the Durham area.

“Second Visit”
Reviewed 12 April 2015 for a stay in April 2015

We have just returned from another Easter Break in this lovely cottage and had just as good an experience as last time. There are now TVs in the bedrooms plus an I pod deck / alarm clock in the main bedroom. We revisited Beamish and Durham Cathedral and Castle but we also went to Locomotion at Shildon and went on the steam train, great fun. Another highlight was the Bowes Museum where we saw the silver swan in action (look on YouTube). The Botanical Gardens are easy to access and have lovely wooded walks, it was a bit busy as an Easter egg hunt was in progress. We still have masses of things that we would like to visit so will probably return next year.

“Great place to chill out”
Reviewed 29 March 2015 for a stay in March 2015

Booked this cottage for my two sisters and myself to celebrate a significant family birthday (eldest sister turning 60!). Could not fault the cottage - every consideration for guests had been made. Lovely welcome pack on arrival. Spotlessly clean, plenty of towels, tea towels, toilet rolls etc. Easy access to Durham and other places. Scenery spectacular. Absolutely fantastic place to spend some girlie time together - very relaxing and very quiet.

“Lovely cottage, great base for Durham and surrounding area.”

Lovely cottage, sympathetically converted, attached to a large, grade 2 listed village house.
Two large bedrooms, both with very well equipped bathrooms. Cosy lounge with log burner, and efficient radiator central heating - all extremely comfortable.
Large kitchen and dining area with everything you might need. A generous welcome pack, bread, milk, jam etc. most thoughtful, and fast wifi, very useful in today's world.
Would certainly stay here again if ever in the North East.
