Stayed here using Tesco Best Western vouchers. Only blip was at check-in where we were allocated a cottage (annexe) room. At time of booking I'd topped up on vouchers and cash and was told canopy / 4 poster. Although this couldn't be accommodated we were more than happy with the relocation to a suite-type room in the main hotel. The change was made without fuss and by a very helpful receptionist who was typical of the service at the Angel & Royal.

Room (103) was very good, a mixture of the old and new, with a spacious bed. Lounge area was also spacious and no complaints whatsoever. The corridor floors are 'creaky' but this didn't affect us in the room - it is a hotel steeped in history with lots to observe and read about. Bar areas were good with (again) very helpful and friendly staff. Service was just right as far as we are concerned.

The immediate vicinity has several pubs and restaurants within walking distance. All the one's we visited were extremely cheap compared to the London/Essex area. Did not eat at the hotel (apart from the satisfying breakfast), but the menu for their 'Berties Bistro' was appealing and very affordable.

Overall - historic hotel providing good old-fashioned 'service with a smile'. That was what we were after for a weekend break and would recommend to all & sundry.

Room Tip: 103 was very spacious - no view though apart from overlookig the kitchens and the rooms opposite

We had a fabulous time at the weekend. All the staff were helpful and calmly sorted any concerns we had. Nothing seemed to be an issue. Our guests were delighted with their rooms. Please thank all those who helped give Mum a memorable 80th
We'll be back!

Room Tip: Ask the staff - they know what they have!

I checked in for 1 night at this hotel on 17 March 2012. Sylvia on the Reception desk was most welcoming. I chose the hotel as I was meeting an old school friend who lives in Lincolnshire, and we had arranged to have dinner together. Our food was served promptly, looked most appetising and tasted delicious. The service was attentive but not overbearing, and all the staff we met were smiling and very efficient.

I had prebooked my room and was astonished at how cheap it was, so wasn't expecting it to be up to much, particularly as it was for single occupancy. But what a treat was in store for me - a really good sized double room furnished beautifully with antique style furniture including a wonderfully comfortable four poster. The bathroom was also a good size and was spotless, as was the bedroom.

I loved everything about this hotel and although critical by nature, found it absolutely faultess. A wonderful stay, and fabulous value for money.

Room Tip: My room was 111 which was quiet (even though it was a Saturday night), large and very comfortable.

Stayed 2 nights 11th and 12th March for visit to nearby Antiques Fair.
Nice, old, Hotel, creaky floors, etc full of history and in a great position in Grantham.
Big car park at rear, very handy with C.C.T.V. from Hotel.
Allocated a 4 poster bed room, big surprise but very nice room, good bathroom, very clean and good cleaning service.
Dining Room o.k. but cheaper eateries very close, same with bar.
Lady on Reception very nice, chatty and very helpful, makes a nice hotel, nicer !
Summary, no negatives, historical Hotel in a good position.
