We booked 5 rooms as we were staying for a training course in Granham.

The hotel is really nice, has many lovely traditional features and everyone had a good nights sleep in great four poster beds. The breakfast was also very good. Free car park at the rear and situated right in he heart of Grantham.
Surprisingly good value too.

We booked as an overnight stay on our way up to North Yorkshire and were really impressed with the hotel. We wished we were able to stay longer. The restaurant food was wholesome and good value for money. The service was really good and staff accommodating. The bed was comfortable and room was quiet, the whole place had a really traditional feel about it. There was sufficient parking.
We were pleasantly surprised that Grantham itself was a really interesting town with lots to see.
We will be back and hopefully stay longer.

We stayed here for one night in January when we were in Grantham for a wedding – it had been recommended by the bride.

Parking is at the back of the hotel across the road from the courtyard which leads to the entrance. Inside there’s a slightly fifties feel about the furniture, layout and décor but the staff behind the tiny reception desk are friendly and welcoming.

The approach to the room was along narrow, carpeted corridors. Our double room was definitely of the cozy, chintzy variety and was on two levels, brought about by knocking two rooms together. So the bedroom was very small but there was also a small sitting room with television and sofas next to it and the bathroom was a good size, very clean and functional. It was very comfortable and had plenty of wardrobe space and drawers

The really terrific surprise about this hotel for us was that it is possibly the oldest hotel in England dating to the 13th century. It has an extraordinary dining room where Richard III held court in 1483. He was only one of several kings, including King John who stayed there (and Oliver Cromwell too).
There are two small bars on each side of the entrance one of which has a huge fireplace complete with stone carvings which was virtually empty at 9.00 pm on the Saturday evening..

Didn’t have dinner at the hotel. Breakfast rather average in a rather non-descript room. Room service lunchtime sandwiches were good and delivered by a cheerful staff member.

Enjoyable visit in an old-fashioned,, comfortable hotel with the bonus of a really remarkable history.

Note: I originally booked directly with the hotel and then discovered that the hotel booking sites were offering the same booking for about 20 GBP cheaper so I cancelled my original reservation and rebooked.

Thank you for your feedback, we are glad that you enjoyed your stay and loved the history of the building, we have taken on board your comments regarding the breakfast room and this is up for refurbishment in the next couple of months. We aim to retain the historic features of the building but brighten up the decor.

We hope to see you again soon, when the sun is shining....

Finally found the time to write a review. What a fantastic relaxing interlude at the Angel and Royal Hotel over the New Year period. After the rush of Christmas it was lovely to recharge our batteries, whilst being cossetted by the staff from dawn to dusk. The New years Eve festivities were brilliant, superb food and entertainment in beautiful surroundings.
Hopefully a stay to be repeated soon.
