Overnight stay before flying to Edinburgh for a meeting! Everywhere else was booked up, luckily I got a cancellation! Very helpful when I arrived, check in was very swift! I was also given a tasty breakfast box, as I was getting an early flight. Room (twin) was perfect, lots of tea and coffee sachets, hot chocolate and shortbread! Bathroom had bath and shower with a large head.....fabulous! Excellent choice of botanical toiletries!
I enjoyed a delicious dinner in the Neuk bar.

Room tip: I was on first floor facing the lane, I would think all rooms would be quiet though.

Everything in Kirkwall is within walking distance. The Albert is across the street from the Harbor. There is an attached bar/restaurant that served the best food we had while we were there. Really enjoyed it!

We booked a table for 4 people for 7pm in the Hotel Lounge Restaurant, our order was taken about 15 min later but starter did not turn up until 9.10pm when main courses finally arrived one of our party had wrong meal put in front of her when waitress told she just took it away and brought correct meal 15 mins later and just 'plonked' meal down. 3 of us had ordered med/rare ribeyes 2 of them were very well done so was sent back and was not charged for but we ended up with 2 of us not having a meal. Value for money was very poor, sevice none existant only 2 members of staff on duty to cover bar and restaurant. The pub food in the Bothy Bar adjoining seemed to take presidence over restaurant. We had had meal in bar previous night and had good food and service except for finding a plastic foreign body in the lamb. We were given a round of drinks as a good will jesture.

We were a party of 5 who landed up in the restaurant of the Albert hotel on a wet Saturday night without reservation and Mark arranged a table for us. It was a very busy night with a very large group booked for dinner in the adjoining room. However Mark and Dorothy took good care to serve our meals in a timely manner while attending to the larger group. Thanks Mark and Dorothy. Delicious meal and excellent service.

We arrived and were told that the room had only been booked for one occupant despite there being two of us (done via hotels.com). This wouldn't have been a problem except on checkout we were charged an additional £25 to cover the extra occupant's breakfast. If we had been told on check-in that we could expect a charge for the extra occupant that would have been reasonable but to be told on checkout was a bit cheeky I thought and if we had known breakfast would cost £25, we'd have most definitely gone elsewhere.

We had a few things we wanted to keep in the fridge and freezer overnight. We asked the receptionist if we could access a fridge/freezer for our things and the initial answer was 'no'. After a brief conversation, the receptionist kindly offered to take our things and put them in cold storage overnight on our behalf which was ideal but it was a shame to have to put a bit of effort into this. I thought the receptionist could have been more proactive from the start.

On this 'proactive' theme, the online payment intermediary took an unexpected pre-authorisation for the booking amount about 48 hours before arrival. This was not a problem once we figured out what was going on but when we arrived at the hotel and explained what we thought had happened to the receptionist, she wasn't that interested in helping us resolve the problem and gave the impression that she wanted payment from us again regardless of the fact that the money had already come out of our account.

As mentioned in the title, the room was very clean and comfortable and the location is very good too. It is just a shame some of the staff didn't seem interested in helping out their guests.
