I just paid about £10 to see the new Star Wars film for a second time. This was the same price as at a Cineworld multiplex in Burton and the difference between the two establishments is dramatic. The cinema in Loughborough a.k.a. Reel Cinema or The Curzon compares very poorly to modern cinemas.
The adjoining restaurant Croma is actually a very nice little place serving good quality food and drink but it is a diamond in dung heap. The cinema is apparently a listed building, but I doubt the toilets are. If anything they should carry a public health warning. They are just awful.
Odeon fitted the cinema with new sound systems and screens, put the prices up, but didn't bother upgrading the toilets, the cinema seats or sorting the heating out. Some screens are freezing cold inside and the seats are archaic. Really uncomfortable.
It's really quite disappointing that such a big name in film hasn't seen it worthwhile to fully upgrade this landmark cinema. It would not surprise me if the new cinema that is being opened in 2016 in Loughborough drives this other one out of business.
