“Needs to be bigger!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 January 2012

As always with Pizza Express the food is consistent, fresh and delicious. Only problem with this restaurant is that it is a victim of it's own success and often very busy. You really need to book as there is nowhere to wait, there is a pub just across the road but not really suitable for families to wait there! Also if it's a chilly night you should try to sit as far from the door as possible as you get an icy blast every time it opens!!!

“Great location, smart decor & good food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 October 2011

I have never visited a Pizza Express before and was pleasantly surprised by the smart modern decor. The staff were very attentive and there was a nice ambience about the place, similiar to a good quality Italian restaurant. The childrens menu was excellent, 4 courses for £6.25 including a small Bambinoccino to finsh off their meal. The food was very good, I had a Calabrese Al Forno starter and Piccante for main course, both were delicious. I would definitely recommend a visit to the Lytham Pizza Express.

“AWFUL EXPERIENCE - CHAOS AND BAD FOOD”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 September 2011

We visited Pizza Express in Lytham on 02.09.11. We were extremely disappointed with our visit.

We arrived at the restaurant shortly after 12.00pm, for a table for 3. We were the third table to be sat down in the restaurant.

On first appearances, the restaurant was filthy. It looked extremely shabby and the chairs we sat on had bits of leather hanging off the edges. We are extremely regular visitors to Pizza Express in Lytham and we have thought for some time that the restaurant needs a full refurbishment as it is now nearly 15 years old.

We were sat down and our order was taken in around 10-15 minutes. The waitress told us she was a trainee, so I was slightly concerned at the fact she was taking our order.

We ordered two pizzas to share and a mixed side salad.

As we were waiting for our food, the air conditioning was switched on and the restaurant was absolutely freezing. We had to ask for it to be switched off, but then it subsequently got switched on again. It made it very unpleasant to sit in the restaurant at this temperature. It was also not helped by the fact that the back door was left wide open and there was a draft coming from that too.

We had to wait nearly 45 minutes for our pizzas. Nobody came over to apologise about the wait, we had to catch someone's eye. We were told by the trainee waitress that it was ready to come out of the oven. We waited a further 15 minutes after this for our pizzas to arrive. I have previously been told that pizzas taken around 7-8 minutes to cook so I did not appreciate that effectively I had been lied to, as the pizzas did not arrive within this time.

To make matters worse, tables that had arrived after us had already received and were eating their food.

Myself and another member of my party were at work that day and only had an hour for lunch, so the time delay on the food was just not acceptable.

We also noticed there were three chefs in the kitchen so we could not understand why our food had taken so long.

When our food arrived, it was awful.

We had ordered an American Hot with a soft egg in the middle and hot green peppers and specifically asked for no Jalapenos. It came with Jalapenos and no hot green peppers. The pizza looked thrown together and was not evenly spread out and was not a complete circle. It was also burnt on the bottom.

We also ordered a half American with extra onion and extra pepperoni and half Sloppy Guiseppe and we asked for it to be lightly done. It arrived and there was pepperoni and onion all over the entire pizza. Half of the onion was not even cooked! The ingredients were again uneven with almost half the pizza having no cheese and the other half had loads. The bottom was also very burnt, as were the crusts.

We had no choice but to eat what we could as we were on a working lunch and did not have time to go elsewhere.

We also saw another table who were sat close to us in the corner of the restaurant under the picture who had actually arrived before us had still not received their food and were extremely angry. They had been waiting over an hour for their food and had two children with them. Nobody had even been over to apologise, and one of the women went up to a waiter and asked where her food was. He simply shrugged and when she walked off he tutted to himself as if he was annoyed with her. This to me was extremely rude behaviour and made me feel very uncomfortable that the staff seemed to be so unaccommodating.

The manager on duty, comped some things off our bill because we had complained to him at the end and this may mainly have been because he knows us as regular customers, as the other table who were waiting didn't seem to be getting anything done to compensate their wait.

I used to enjoy coming to Pizza Express in Lytham around 2 to 3 times a week on average.

This visit and other previous visits in the recent months have made me feel like I do not want to return. The appalling attitude of the staff, the poor quality of the food and the state of the restaurant do not make me want to return, as there are plenty of other restaurants in Lytham of a similar price where I can find a much more enjoyable meal. I think it is a shame that Pizza Express has descended into such a state of chaos as I used to really enjoy my visits.

If you are going to Lytham - do not visit Pizza Express there are many more nicer, friendlier restaurants with better food for a similar price - it is not worth the hassle!

“VERY DISAPPOINTED”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 August 2011

We will not return to Pizza Express in Lytham. We are frequent users of the Pizza Express brand in different towns and locations. On entering the Lytham establishment we were met with a friendly waitress. On sitting down, we found both our wine glasses were dirty, one had lip stick around the rim and both had washing marks on their bowl. Both sets of cutlery were similarly stained. The waitress said that they were having trouble with the dish washer. Nearby, were three tables that had been joined together, the used plates etc had been removed but the tables needed wiping down, as they were full of crumbs. It wasn't as though the staff were busy, there was only one other couple on the premises. On complaining about our glasswear etc., a flurry of activity commenced and all the other tables were serviced and the dead flowers on each tables were removed and replaced with fresh ones.
We ordered a starter, wine and a Pizza -to- share. The wine and the starter were fine but the Pizza was lacking in topping , had hard pastry and could have been better. We were offered a complimentary coffee when we told the waitress of our concerns but we declined. The manager spoke with the waitress but never approached us. We paid and left - never to return.
