I went to The Alexander on Mothering Sunday with my husband and we were very impressed. It was very busy but we were greeted with a warm welcome and seated and served quickly. We had good service during our meal without intrusion and nothing was too much trouble. The staff were well presented and the restaurant was clean and warm with a good choice of background music. We liked the decor, the hanging baskets of fresh flowers and the newspapers.
Our meals were excellent. The cost of the meal was very fair. Particularly pleasing was the starter of warm beetroot and goats cheese stack with rocket and the delightful creme brulee for dessert. I understand that the menu is regularly refreshed. We will definitely return.!

Good food, lovely service, but the acoustics are terrible! Once there are than a few people in the dining room you can't hear any conversation. I'm not old but my high frequency hearing is not as good as it was. Some soft furnishings and maybe acoustic damping would cure the problem. If you don't want conversation then it's wonderful.

We were recommended the Alexander by friends so we popped in on a random Saturday lunch time and ended up staying all evening! The staff were very attentive despite being relatively busy. The food was definitely a highlight - best fish and chips i've had in years! Very clean, good atmosphere, great service and really great food. First "pub" I've felt compelled to write a review for!

This is a pub that has been turned into a gastro pub. the food is good although choice is fairly limited - very good beer batter haddock, chicken with green beans and mushrooms was very tasty. Prices are what you would expect for a gastro pub with most main courses being around the eleven pounds mark. they do have a childrens choice of some dishes. in the week they do a choice of sandwiches. we have been a few times and service is ok but not outstanding. it is nice for a change and seems to be popular with family groups. It is nice for a change.
