“Perfect cosy cottage”
Reviewed 22 August 2016 for a stay in August 2016

We were travelling from Munich and without car which is absolutely no Problem in Buxton since there a lots of busses to reach nearly all the sigths in the area.

The Cottage is perfectly equipped with everything you need. We especially liked the sunny outside space.

“A homely, welcoming cottage in an excellent location.”
Reviewed 15 August 2016 for a stay in August 2016

The cottage is a very characterful old building, with wooden beams, log fire and decorated throughout with charming homely touches. The walls have paintings and photos of the local area, and the owner left a very useful book of local information and leaflets for local attractions.

We were very comfortable during our stay, the cottage had everything we needed and there were helpful instructions for the washer/dryer, heating and how to use the fire. The cottage was very quiet at night.

There is a small outdoor area where we could park our car, which has a pleasant seating area and space to hang washing.

It's only a short walk to the market square, which has local pubs and restaurants. The Pavilion Gardens are also a short walk away. There's also a lovely second-hand bookshop at the end of the street.

“Charming, cosy, homely cottage”
Reviewed 9 June 2016 for a stay in June 2016

We've stayed here twice now & will again. Just right for a couple & 1 child - might be a little too cosy for 3 adults. Part of its charm is that it is still a 'proper' cottage - restored rather than modernised. It has everything you might need plus more local information than the tourist office! It feels like someone's home, there are lots of personal touches. Good, reliable wi-fi. The car park & outside space are a definite bonus - though we mostly walked everywhere as it is extremely well placed; the Pavilion Gardens (with 2 good children's play areas) is only 5 mins walk, the local shops are close by, Poole's Cavern & the country park are about 10 mins walk. In fact, you could probably do without a car altogether! Pam, the owner, is lovely too. ☺

“Brilliant cosy cottage with parking convenient for Buxton town centre”

Stayed for 4 nights in the winter with my wife and son. The cottage was clean, warm and very charming. The location is very handy for Buxton town centre but in a quiet side street. The owners have put a lot of effort into providing everything that a visitor could want. The booking process and communication with the owners was very straightforwards.

We can certainly recommend this cottage to others looking for a place to stay while exploring Buxton and the Peak District National Park.

“What a wonderful cosy cottage.”
Reviewed 6 February 2016 for a stay in January 2016

I was looking for an overnight stay in Buxton as we had tickets for a show at the Buxton Opera House when I saw Smithy's Cottage on TripAdvisor. What a brilliant move that was! For not much more than the cost of a decent hotel B&B we spent a wonderful Friday-Monday in one of the cosiest cottages we've ever stayed in. The house is spotless, comfortable, warm, quirky (in a good way) and so well equipped. The owners have thought of just about everything that you might need and Pam was so friendly, from the initial booking to sending messages when the cottage was ready for us and a kind message once we were home.
The house itself is in a quiet access only lane and yet only a few minutes stroll to many places of interest. Only 2 minutes walk away are some great real ale pubs serving lovely meals. We walked to the Opera House & Pavillion gardens, had a wander around the town & walked from the cottage up through the country park to Solomon's Temple and beyond. Even the shops & supermarkets are in walking distance. We didn't use the car from arrival on the Friday to leaving at lunchtime on Monday.
But it was the cottage itself that was the highlight of our weekend. It may have been cold & windy outside but curled up in front of a roaring coal fire, glass of wine in hand and a film on the TV we couldn't have been more comfortable. If you're looking for a cosy romantic cottage with a lot of history, within reach of both an interesting town and open countryside you couldn't do better than Smithy's Cottage. We will definitely book the cottage again.
