“Lovely cottage, about as central as can be!”
Reviewed 26 January 2016 for a stay in August 2015

Fantastic place right in the middle of Hay! Clean, luxurious, a big comfortable bed, and all within five minutes walk of the best bookshops the UK has to offer! Brilliant, affordable restaurants nearby, very friendly locals, and no shortage of antique and vintage shops - second hand records, antique jewellery, everything you could ask for! Wonderful stay, 5/5 would recommend!

“Excellent Accomodation”
Reviewed 10 January 2016 for a stay in December 2015

My husband and I stayed at the Pavement Palace over the New Year period.

It was beautifully decorated with a Christmas tree, was lovely and warm on arrival with plenty of wood to burn for the duration of our stay.

This is an excellent place to stay in Hay On Wye due to the fantastic central location as well as having such a high standard of decoration and all the comforts you would hope to have while spending time away from home over the New Year.

I would highly recommend staying here and would happily stay again in the future.

“Ideal for us - charming, comfortable, perfect location”
Reviewed 3 December 2015 for a stay in November 2015

We stayed for two nights, covering the Hay-on-Wye market day of Thursday. We tried to extend a night or two but it was booked up, and it was also booked up the next (Hay Winter Festival) weekend. That tells you a lot.
Arrangements for finding and access were easy - the owner James occupies the shop on the ground floor. James showed us around very well, explaining everything, and demonstrating everything we needed to know about. He also explained some of the things we needed to know in order to enjoy Hay conveniently and fully.. All in all, an excellent settling in process.
The apartment is lovely - comfortable, stylish, warm, containing every convenience you need, even for a more extended stay, well maintained, and overall we were delighted.
The location is perfect - right in the centre of Hay. Parking is very close (1 hour parking right outside). Walking from the apartment to and from shops and restaurants, interrupted by breaks back to the base for offloading, a rest, or whatever, then resuming the quest was just so easy. It made our stay in Hay so hassle free it added a lot to the enjoyment.
Restaurants and cafes are within very easy walking distance - just a few yards in some cases. And the star eating place as far as we are concerned, the Tapas Bar, is just a few steps away.
For a stay in the heart of this charming and interesting town, which was smaller but so much more interesting than we anticipated, the Pavement Palace is in our opinion just perfect.
A special mention for the owner James, who was so friendly and informative it made the trip just so easy, relaxing and enjoyable.

We will be re-visiting Hay, when we are able to book the Pavement Palace again.

“Perfect location for all Hay-on-Wye attractions”
Reviewed 30 October 2015 for a stay in October 2015

Took my two kids to Hay-on-Wye for three days and chose The Pavement Palace for its central location. A great place with all the mod cons you'd expect, the main living room (that also converts to bedroom to claim the sleeps 4) is a delight, some, parts dating back to the 15th Century.

Enjoyed the window seat people watching whilst he kids relaxed catching up on their favourite TV shows in between the shopping.

The bedroom has a small bathroom with sink and loo, whilst the main bathroom is located downstairs off the kitchen.

Everything is well maintained and was spotless on our arrival. Complimentary tea and coffee awaits your arrival which was a nice touch.

I'd definitely go back again.

“Lovely, hope to stay there again”

What a gem, I am still smiling.
Booked rather late as a substitute for a hotel stay and its amazing how for almost the same price you would pay for a hotel room you get so much more. Not just the space but the quality of it.
This was our first ever self catering rental weekend away. Thanks to this stay I think I am hooked.
The place is spacious, very nicely decorated, very clean, comfortable, had all the “little comforts” like a supply of tea, coffee, sugar, salt, some oil etc , cleaning materials, toiletries in the bathroom, all of which were a great convenience.
I am still smiling.
Heating worked without a glitch though we needed little of it –mainly to warm the bathroom up a bit- as the place is not cold or droughty.
The bed is large and comfortable with very nice quality bed linen.
I am still smiling.
Location perfect as central in town and the clock tower bells mentioned by others that actually added to the “atmosphere” of the place, were much quieter than expected. You may miss them chime all together while sitting in the lounge.

With the bathroom located on the ground floor and the bedroom and the lounge on the first, little cloak room off the bedroom is a useful addition, though you may think twice before using it in the middle of the night as the cutely squeaking :) floor boards there may wake your partner up (no squeaky floor boards anywhere else in the property – in case you wander).
I was smiling.

In a rather important addition to this lovely and comfortable “palace” the booking is easy, communications with the owner are timely, very pleasant, welcoming and very informative.

Its one of the kind accommodation that does not break the bank and we will happily return to stay there again.
I am still smiling :)
Just had a look on the preview-before submitting the review - at all top ratings I gave and thought " Could it be all that good!?" well, it was, so have no reason to mark it down for anything.
