It was like going back in time. The decor, service and food/drink quality was everything I expected from a 1940’s carry on film - but without the character or humour.

You have to use a code to get into the turnstyle toilets (which I can sort of understand) and the coffee was undrinkable.

Stopped of here on a visit to Minehead while visting the area on holiday, we ordered cream teas, I found the staff at the till friendly but it was clearly a struggle for them to be friendly. The cream teas arrived and the waitress who served us was genuinly very helpful. However the scones were the worst I have ever had, tasteless and fell apart, cleary these were bought in on the cheap. Definately one to miss if your looking for a cream tea in Minehead.

If you want food on the beach then they have a good choice at reasonable prices plus you get a code on the receipt so you can use the toilets all day, better than the 50p charged at Jubilee Cafe. Good selection of ice cream flavours.

We have eaten at the Strand for at least the last 5 five years and I have personally known it for a lot longer .

Location - is great , it's on the Seafront opposite the beach with arcades and market near - parking is on street ( paid for ) near .

Access for disabled - or wheelchair is great - they have a ramp & plenty of space inside - tables that seat more than four and there is a changing / disabled room - which is an absolute delight .

Toilet access through a locked door by code ( you get when you buy food ) which is a little draconian but understandable when you consider that the council have closed the local lavs & you get a constant dribble of people trying to access the toilets - who are not actually customers - sad though that some are really in need of a little help.

Menu - is a little bit of the traditional - the food quality is reasonable / home cooking & portioning is about average .

Service is - you chose from the menu - and not everthings on the table menu - it's alll on the big board behind the counter and you order at the counter - then pay & take your order number to your table & await delivery ..........it's not to bad . It's a family run place , they are nice people - if not over friendly people & it's good to see all age groups of the family involved together .
As a customers you do get a service but are not made to feel special - reminds me a bit of the café in " The Last of the Summer Wine " it's just that Wally's not serving you .

We will be going back again - Fish & chips are a favourite of one member of the family , I like the homemade Steak pie & the burgers are actually quite good - the chips are very good ( crunchy - yet soft inside ) .

Ice cream - is what some go there for - I'm, not a lover , but others in the family are .
100's to chose from ......and the are all very lickable.

We will be back - we do like the people & the place . Value - is Ok -

In conclusion :- if you want Haute Cuisine , Fast Food , Themed rest'nt style or adventurous food - then don't go to the Strand - It's a traditional British Seaside style Sun & sand type of place .

People wise , If you speak to them - they will speak to you -.they are very British & there is definitely no over the top - " Have a nice day " .......style of service .

Personally , I feel there is absolutely nothing wrong with Tradition - as a country we are built on it - so enjoy it for what it is ...it's not Bon Appetit - it's a caff not a café.
