Out for a walk while car serviced, found the gardens as I’ve never taken the time to visit, what an excellent spot for a walk and to contemplate, sidmouth should make more of this hidden gem

Lovely quiet place to sit and spend an hour or two, the gardens well laid out with plenty of seating and wheelchair friendly so long as you follow the directions farther up the hill. It is particularly good to sit on the terraces overlooking Jacobs ladder beach. We have spent many hours here over the years .

The gardens offer a cafe offering lovely fresh food in a quiet, peaceful, amazing location with an archway that overlooks the sea. Friendly staff offer a wide range of snacks to eat in a beautiful setting.

Had a lovely walk along the Millennium way coastal pathway and ended up at Jacobs ladder, the kids took the ladder route and we walked the long way round up the hill with the dogs. Although the gardens here are beautiful we were very disappointed to learn well behaved dogs are no longer welcome at the cafe situated in the middle of the gardens. I was told this was the new owners decision and having spoken to several Sidmouth locals the cafe part of Connaught Gardens has gone down hill considerably since a new lady has taken over. What a shame I’d say however don’t despair and instead visit a lovely cafe called Mocha on the sea front which does allow WELL BEHAVED dogs in.

We love Connaught Garden. The views are amazing on both sides and we love the interlinked sunken gardens and spring flowers and the views through the archways. There are numerous seating areas and The Clock Tower Cafe provides refreshments. The baskets in the summer are fabulous and award winning .We love the owl boxes too.
