We held our engagement party here on 16th November and cannot thank Richard, Aileen and all of the staff enough for everything they did for us. We had private use of the entire pub and restaurant area with over 100 guests and some also booked rooms to stay the night. Whatever we wanted was not too much trouble, from us decorating the pub out throughout the day, having our cake delivered and access for the disco to set up early. The pub also provided an amazing and plentiful buffet for 100. All of our guests commented on the quantity and quality of the food - massive thanks to Sue and everyone else for all the hard work with the food. We really couldn't have asked for more - simply outstanding ! Unfortunately, I forgot to get photos of the buffet. I look forward to using The Chequers again for future events - including for our wedding. Thank you once again!

Found this place for somewhere to stop on our way back from Manchester. Just a few miles of the A1 in a beautiful village this place is a delight. So peaceful with extremely friendly staff it was a delight to spend some time here. Excellent value for money and extremely relaxing. The food served here is a gastronomical delight and would highly recommend.

The staff and service here were exceptional, we were away on a course and from the moment we arrived (which was quite late), they went over and above, by making sure we could order food even though the kitchen was due to close. I wasn't expecting too much from the food with it being a pub but I was very pleasantly surprised, to be honest, because it was excellent. Breakfast, which was included in the room price was again wonderful and arrived at the exact time we requested the night before.

The room was very comfortable and had a large bathroom, with a full-length mirror which was great because it doubled as a changing area. There was some noise on the Saturday evening but we completely understood this because at the end of the day it is a pub and there had been a race meet at the local track, also because it was such a warm weekend we had the windows open. However, this was no real concern and ended quickly at closing time.

I loved the fact that there was so much history surrounding the pub, it was on the ancient Great North Road from London to Scotland and there was even a little cannonball which had been found in the Village on the fireplace.

I would highly recommend The Chequers Inn (which I already have to all my course friends) and will definitely be returning whenever I have a course in Darlington.

Went to The Chequers for an evening meal on Saturday. Lovely laid back atmosphere, friendly staff. Ordered starters and mains. Massive portions- all excellent, fish pie and homemade burger lovely. Drinks reasonably priced too. All in all very happy and would definitely visit again. Locals really friendly too which can sometimes not be the case when a small village pub. Really great- a real homely heart to a village!
