“Beautiful... Unique... Fun. Why Stay Anywhere Else?”
Reviewed 5 September 2016 for a stay in August 2016

We found this wonderful gem via a well known holiday search engine - whilst looking for somewhere to stay this summer, near Sandbanks. I managed to track down the owner (Mark) via their website "Calypso Charters" as I needed to check the lower age limit for my young daughter.

Thankfully having children on board was not an issue (they are quite grown up 11 year old girls) so my best friend and I booked the boat for 5 nights and 6 days in August.

I have stayed on boats before so I was aware that it is not the same as a hotel room. There are limitations and considerations to be made but personally I find it a non-issue as the payoff of wide sweeping beautiful views and being gently rocked to sleep each night far outweigh anything else!

Calypso has four bedrooms and two bathrooms split between both ends of the boat. My daughter had a bunk room next to my double room. We shared the small bathroom too. At the other end of the boat was a single room, a large double and another bathroom (which my friend and her daughter shared). Between us all was a large living area/kitchen with a huge table - where we ate many a delicious meal (usually from the Quay!).

In the mornings we would eat our breakfast on the middle deck (a sun trap) and there is also a top deck, which we used to watch the Poole fireworks from on a Thursday night.

One day we chartered Calypso for an afternoons sailing, passing Brownsea Island, Studland, Sandbanks and all along the Jurassic Coast. Mark and his great 1st Mate Paul, anchored up off Studland and we all jumped off the back on the boat, played with inflatibles, went snorkelling and enjoyed the beautiful summer sun in this very unique spot.

Oh and the two children say its their best holiday ever (though this may have been influenced by the endless free Wifi!)

All in all, we had a wonderful holiday, with great hosts and we will be returning without doubt.

A quick tip... book through Marks website Calypso Charters as its cheaper than the search engines.

“Caribbean calypso for 4 nights in Poole paradise”
Reviewed 1 September 2016 for a stay in August 2016

The children wanted to stay on a boat and so I hired the Calypso. We could not have had a better time. The host was very welcoming, the boat well maintained and we had everything we needed. There was accommodation for 7 but I think more than 5 adults might be pushing it.

The quay is situated right next to the Sunseeker boat yard and it was a pleasure to see what multi-million pound boats were on the water. The quay is also situated close to a relatively large selection of nice family friendly restaurants as well including Alcatraz (Italian).

As part of the stay we also went out on the boat which I would recommend. Our host suggested mackerel fishing off the boat and when we got back there was crabbing on the quay. You can hire all sorts of boats from here from small inflatables to sunseekers. Brownsea island is in view and sandbanks and Studland are just a short drive away.

If you want to be picky you have to park the car a 10 minute walk away. On the hot summer nights we had it was easy just to drop the children off and then walk back. If it is raining or very late at night this might feel like a pain. To drop bags off at the start and the end you just park next to the quay, get stroller, load it up and walk to the boat.

Boating is a very different way of life and it caught us out a few times. However, I would recommend it without hesitation.

The crew and owner were fabulous, the boat was impressive, beds were the best nights sleep ever, looking up at the stars. The charter was fantastic. I haven't stopped talking about this trip to my friends, we want to do it all over again.

Just back from a wonderful break on Calypso for a friend's birthday. We were delighted when we saw our home for the next few days - I don't think the photos really show how spacious and impressive this yacht is in reality. There are 2 decks outside and 4 bedrooms (2 doubles, 1 single and 1 single/bunk room) and 2 bathrooms. The location is perfect with showers and toilets just a short walk away which are well maintained and clean. It was lovely just to sit out on deck and take in the view. Other boat owners were always friendly and there was a Tesco Express with cash point just opposite not to mention numerous lovely restaurants and bars.
We received a warm welcome from Mark upon arrival and had a wonderful time. It was really different to stay on the boat rather than a B&B etc and I would thoroughly recommend this beautiful yacht to others.

My wife and I (and eldest son) loved the attractive approach to the Calypso and its situation in the harbour/marina was perfect.

Accommodation superb, and our ensuite bedroom was very comfortable.

We also booked a half day charter for the Sunday which was just wonderful. We anchored in a bay for a pleasant lunch, a few drinks and some easy listening music - which made our experience on-board even more memorable.

Captain Mark & his crew were so friendly and professional, we must (and will) do it again.
