We bought scoopons for our holiday and we weren’t quite sure what to expect. We were certainly very pleasantly surprised. We stayed at Mai Saumui for 10 days and the staff made our stay very enjoyable and memorable. We are especially grateful to the staff as my husband experienced excruciating back pain at about 9.00pm the second night we were staying there. I rang reception to see if we could get a doctor to see him but they advised this was not possible so they arranged an ambulance to take him to a hospital. The next day while he was still in hospital one of the Managers visited him with a box of pastries. When we told him that he was being discharged the Manager offered to drive him back to the resort. He also arranged for us to be upgraded to a lovely ground floor room right near the breakfast area so my husband wouldn’t have far to walk. We were really impressed and grateful for all the help they gave us to make our stay enjoyable. We really felt like we were leaving family when we left. The resort itself was lovely with pools all around. At breakfast we would be informed of dinner choices for the night and we really enjoyed the BBQs on the waterfront, watching the sun go down. An added advantage was the free bus service which ran three times a day to Chaweng Beach. We were certainly glad we bought those scoopons.

As a first time visitor to Thailand, travelling from Bangkok in a party of 8 (2 x families of 4), I was instantly impressed with the domestic (budget) service provided to us by the fresh, happy, no fuss Bangkok Airways in delivering us to and from Ko Samui. What a relaxed, cute airport Samui is too. This certainly helped to set the tone for our 5 night stay at Mai Samui Spa & Resort. We paid 1200bht (approx $38au) for a limo/ac van to drive us 45 mins door to door from the airport.
The people, the rooms, the atmosphere, the design, the food, the services, the pools, the spa & the happy hours were all impeccable. Cheaper food and on beach massages are available to either side of the resort but without the meticulous quality and presentation of the Mai Samui team. We'd utilised accomodation vouchers from Ouffer Melbourne for 2 rooms with a connecting balcony per family and our living expenses at the resort ended up to be surprisingly more affordable than we'd expected. We all wished we could have stayed longer so as to explore more of the island and its' surrounds. In a remote, quiet (north / west) corner of Samui, day trips were still achievable without much hassle or excess travel time. At the start of low season and not too busy, kids and adults all had a great time. Love to go again.

Pro's

1. Lovely rooms, lovely balcony
2. Excellent staff
3. Free shower products
4. Free wifi
5. Pool outstanding
6. Grounds and common areas outstanding
7. Towels, sunbeds provided
8. Built in bath on balcony
9. Good breakfast served 6-11
10. Free shuttle to airport

Cons

1. Location location location
2. Shuttle only @ 9, 11, returning @ 1.30, 4
3. Hotel taxi outside of these times 1,000 bath which is about 25 euro!
4. Drinks expensive even at happy hour
5. Food expensive with limited choice
6. Spa double price of chaweng
7. No evening entertainment

In summary, this is a beautiful resort but far out from Chaweng, due to the shuttle service times and taxi cost you may find yourself forced to pay the hotel prices which are at a significant premium in less isolated areas with same quality. The resort lacks atmosphere, perhaps this was due to limited guests and no entertainment. If you want peaceful resort away from the world it's superb. If you like a bit of both entertainment and relaxation then move closer to town. This hotel is 40 mins away from main town and about 500 bath if you manage to get a tuk tuk from top of the lane way(5min walk)

we loved our stay!the resort was impecibly clean. The staff were helpful and friendly and always wearing a smile!
The pools were amazing but our favourite was the beach pool with its little hut shaped bar. the perfect place to spend happy hour (1-6pm)
We hired a scooter which was the cheapest form of transport. Its about a 25 minute ride to the main shopping spot. The roads on Koh Samui are no where near as crazy as Phuket or Bankok.
A perfcet getaway for a week.. we didnt want to leave!

Room tip: the cheaper rooms are further from the beach but are still wonderful and have comfortable surroundings :)

Mai Samui was very relaxing, with great service and fantastic staff. Our cocktail bar waiter Yuttana (nickname boy) was so impressive and helpful nothing was ever any trouble. The meals were inexpensive with alot of variety to choose from. Khun Suthee the head waiter was on top of everything and very helpful and friendly. The rooms and service was impecable. Thank you for a fantastic stay we will be back. Briggs and Waters families.

Room tip: The bottom rooms (more expensive) have walk into the pool areas. The other rooms in the main resort are still very good and quiet, you have to go up stairs though.
