We booked via Home from Home. Location for Mumbles, Langland and Caswell was perfect. House requires refurbishment - it seemed that the house was left to the existing landlord who has siince just taken the rental income without any reinvestment in the property.
The real issue was the £250 'damages' deposit we had to pay which we have never done before in any of the many other bookings we have undertaken through Home from Home. This was obtained without any joint prior inspection of the property. On arriving at the property -for example- there were numerous carpet stain issues which we communicated to the booking company. We asked who would decide on the full £250 refund at the end of our stay and they said the cleaners!! We have since had the deposit refunded. This issue caused us a degree of stress during our stay.
Landlords must not ask for these deposits unless:
> The property standards are excellent
> A joint inspection is undertaken on arrival
> A joint inspection is done before departure
Landlords are already insuring the property against damage so this policy is unnecessary and should be stopped.
The letting agents - Home from Home - need to talk to the property owners and tell them they will not market their property with this sort of deposit policy.
We stayed at West Mead over bonfire weekend. The house is beautiful, well equipped and lovely and warm (especially liked the underfloor heating in the kitchen). The surrounding area is beautiful with two beaches within easy walking distance and lovely coastal walks too. So much to do, will need to go back at some point.
We took the family to Gower to celebrate a family birthday - 6 adults and 2 small children. West Mead was an excellent venue, with 4 large bedrooms and plenty of places for different groups to relax.
Family originally come from Gower, so we knew the area, which helped in finding our way around the lanes to and from the house to local pubs and shops. The walks down to the lovely beaches at Langland, in particular, and Caswell are short and easy, but probably not suitable for small children to walk or be taken in buggies.
The drive at the house has plenty of room for four or more cars, but must be parked nose-to-tail. There is additional parking available on nearby roads.
The Gower peninsular is a beautiful area to visit. West Mead is a great base for holidays in the area. The house is clean and spacious. We would definitely consider using it again in the future.
The House is a pleasure to stay in, and gives easy access to some stunning beaches and coastal scenery.
We really enjoyed our stay at the property. It was clean, comfortable and the kitchen was well equipped.
You can walk from the house to Caswell bay, around to Langland and then carry on to Newton road for lunch or shopping. Buses are frequent and stop just down the road so no need to take the car and search for parking.
Would stay again, the beds were so comfortable, which is very rare these days in a holiday let.
