Our family of 4 stayed at the Hotel Park for 3 nights in July, 2017. We had two rooms next to one another and our 10 and 12 year old stayed together. We loved the hotel! It is a walk up, and our rooms were on the top floor. But we love to hike and are all about incidental exercise so welcomed the climb! Our rooms had lovely views of the city and were tastefully decorated. No, it's not a luxury hotel, but it is definitely a boutique hotel and everything is done beautifully. Our children also loved the brownies and likely ate far more than their share! Breakfast was lovely, though perhaps the room gets a bit crowded given how it is set up. But a small price to pay! The staff are welcoming, accommodating, and very friendly. I cannot recommend the hotel enough!

Lovely hotel in a quiet neighborhood (except for some noisy seagulls!) that's nevertheless convenient to all. Good ambiance, filling breakfast, and kind, helpful staff. One thing to be aware of: If you're at the end of a hall, your bed will be right up against the bed in the adjoining room. We had a loud snorer one night and could hear every breath he took! Better to request a room in the middle of the hallway.

We loved it! Be aware that it is a walk-up, and that the rooms are clean, comfortable, and stylish, but not fancy. The breakfast was amazing--including the homemade crispbread--and the service was wonderful. Although this hotel is not quite as centrally located as some, we were able to easily walk everywhere we wanted to go. Recommended for those who appreciate character.

This is a charming hotel within walking distance to the central bus/train station and to Bryggen and the pier. My room was very small (I travelled solo), but it was cosy and clean. The breakfast is varied, fresh and plentiful. It was difficult to carry my suitcase up the stairs to my room - there is no elevator. Be sure to wander through the pretty park right behind the hotel. I only found it by accident and enjoyed my stroll. The most delightful treat is the yummy complimentary brownies, served in the parlour throughout the day, with tea and coffee. That's a lovely touch. And, they are baked in the hotel kitchen - I woke up in the middle of the night to the most glorious scent of dark chocolate brownies baking!

Room Tip: Because there is no elevator, ask for a room on a lower floor if you bring along heavy luggage

Dear Lisa :-)

Thank you so much for the great review. I am so sorry that we do not have a elevator in the hotel. We try to give our guest that has problems with the luggage rooms low down or help with the luggage. (We are only girls working in the hotel, so some suitcases are even to heavy for us ) The girls working during the night makes the brownie, granola and the crisp bread. So it is right that you smell the brownie baking during the night.

We hope to welcome you back to us another time.

Best regards

I'm always a little worried when I see the words 'historic hotel'. When we were offered a basement room in the annex (across the street from the main hotel), my heart sank. But I could not have been more wrong -- our 4 nights in a double room were great. Our room was lovely, and quite spacious by Scandinavian standards. Despite being in the basement, it had a big, street-level window that opened. The bathroom was small, but very modern and well-designed; the room came with a kettle and tea and coffee and a power board to ensure plenty of electrical sockets. The internet was fast. The decor throughout the hotel is a stylish mix of modern pieces and antique kitchenware and furniture.

We peeked into the room across the hall from ours in the basement and it was perhaps a suite (a four-poster bed and a sofa a coffee table) - also lovely.

As other reviewers point out, the breakfast room is small, but there are additional and comfy tables in the lobby for use during breakfast and for the complimentary tea, coffee and brownies during the day. The breakfast offerings are fine and include hot dishes and fresh fruit smoothies.

We loved the location, a quick 10 minutes walk from town and away from crowds. A secret benefit is that one of Bergen's best bistros (Marg & Bein) is just a block away -- and well worth a visit.

The front desk staff could not have been friendlier: when we checked in at 10pm and were really hungry, they steered us straight to a delightful meal at the classic bar/cafe Pingvin (a quick 10 minute walk away). The owner/manager appeared at breakfast, welcoming guests and bringing over fresh coffee to each table. You cannot fault that level of warmth and enthusiasm.

Yes, the hotel is on a hill; yes, you need to take a taxi there; yes there are no elevators. So not a good choice for anyone with mobility issues, but in all other respects this is a really outstanding place to stay.

Room Tip: Annex basement is quiet and comfortable

Dear Veronica .
Thank you so much for the wonderful review . I am happy to read that even if you had a basement room that you liked the hotel so much. It means a lot for all of us that our guest has a nice stay with us.

Welcome back to us if you ever return to Bergen. We will then give you one of the rooms with a view to the mountains :-)

Best regards
