I´ve stayed at many hotels and this one is OK. Expensive, but great location if you want to be close to the zoo.
The food was bland and quite busy and hectic with only the buffet. One can drive to downtown Kristiansand for different restaurants, but that can be hard with a toddler.
We tried to order from a pizzeria, the menu was in our room, for take-out, but never reached through the long line.
So we gave in and had the buffet food.
300,-NOK per person was pricey and the children´s discount was unclear.
The food was OK, but seemed bland and as if it had been lying out for hours. Not much selection.
The staff did their best as it was quite busy.
Same with breakfast: small selection and not that tasty.
Our room, which we paid 2000,- NOK for a night, to get a view (the lake in which the pirate ships roams back and forth) was OK, but small and overpriced.
The childbed was just the couch covered with a blanket and extra pillow and blanket. Had our son been older and bigger, he could easily have fallen out.

As a plus: there is a small shop in the hotel and a large playroom by the restaurant.

The staff is nice and it was an OK hotel, not great, not bad.

Room Tip: You can either have rooms with a view over the parking lot, or pay extra for rooms overlooking the waters in front of the park.

We stayed for two nights, with two small children. Despite booking well in advance and requesting a crib for the youngest, the room we got was so small that it couldn't fit both the crib and our luggage. There were no wardrobes to unpack in either, but a few hangers on the wall that is insufficient for a family of four.

The room was poorly maintained: the heater was half way broken off the wall, the plug for the sink was broken, toilet roll was broken, the fabric cube used as a bed side table was stained. Overall, the condition of the room was disappointing.

Other facilities were good, there is an excellent play room for the children. Most staff were friendly, though service was uneven. (Some children were offered little gifts upon check in, some were not).

This hotel will not be our first choice next time we visit dyreparken.

Room Tip: you can ask for a room with a view to the park

First I will thank you for your response it is a great help for us in finding new improvement areas.

I see that you write that the room was poorly maintained and I would be very grateful if you could send a mail to pswinter@scandichotels.com and give me information on which room number you had.

Thank you again for your time and I hope you wil considering staying with us next time as well :)

Yours sincerely

This was a practical child friendly hotel. The staff were patient, friendly and accommodating considering the amount of kids in hotel. The buffet at breakfast had a great variety to choose from. The hotel also had a dinner buffet that was good with variety for the family but you had to book ahead of time. There was something for the lactose/gluten free folk too. The hotel was conveniently close to the sorlandsparken mall. So you didn't have to drive into Kristiansand center. The play area for the kids at the basement and on the 4th floor was really good for the young kids and older kids respectively.
Since this was high season check-in and check-out was not the fastest but the staff were efficient. I would recommend it to anyone going to the Dyreparken.

Very nice, close to the zoo, thats great. Very cool hotel interior.Friendly staff, fun playroom for the children.

We got one room with no window to the outside, so we had to change room, because 5 people in one room needs fresh air :)

I could give the hotel a 5 star but because there were no bacon for breakfast they loose 2 stars. Thats a big no no in a hotel breakfast, its that simple.

Room Tip: With window to the outside if you like fresh outdoor air.
