I stayed at the Comfort Grand Central while in Oslo at the two ends of the Sognefjord in a Nutshell tour. The hotel was kind enough to store my luggage for the five days that I was away. I was in a standard single room each time (Rooms #472 & #326.) The hotel was at the western end of the station concourse and had an entrance on the lower floor through their restaurant, the Bella Bambina. Don't make the mistake of leaving the station or you'll be pulling your luggage over cobblestones. It was close to all forms of transport and also many tourist sites such as the Royal Palace and the Opera House.

Pros

- it had friendly staff
- it had a nice lounge setting in the lobby
- it had free coffee and tea in the lobby
- it was close to trains, the subway and bus stations
- it was close to restaurants and supermarkets in the station concourse. There was also a large shopping complex connected to the concourse.
- breakfast was provided. It was a substantial continental type breakfast with some basic hot items.
- it had its own restaurant, the Bella Bambina Italian.
- it had a complementary gymnasium
- it had an ironing room
- they will store luggage for you

My room :

- had a comfortable bed.
- had plenty of electrical sockets
- had a large LCD television.
- had a desk.
- had free WiFi (I measured 11.5Mbps download and 11.5Mbps upload speeds)
- a nice bathroom (the shower was somewhat small in the first room but better in the second room)
- it was air conditioned.

Cons

- rooms were quite compact.
- there wasn't much storage space. There were no drawers. I needed to keep everything in my suitcase. This was not such a problem for a solo traveller.
- there was no safe to store valuables
- power was keyed using the door key. You couldn't charge cameras etc if you left the room.
- there was no bar fridge or minibar
- the door locking system could be fickle. It would sometimes lock by itself and sometimes wouldn't lock at all without many tries.

You can't beat the hotel for location. I would stay there again.

If you are arriving in Oslo by train this is the perfect hotel for you as you can reach the reception area through an undercover arcade with attractive shops and eateries. My room was very comfortable with a spacious bathroom. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

Very clean hotel close to every transport option in Oslo. The only problem was finding the hotel in the railway station complex. There was no signage anywhere and no information on the Hotel website. Overall a good stay.

The location could not be better, being placed at the Central Station itself. You do not need to go outside wether you want to use train, subway, bus, taxi or plane (via airport express), and the tram is only 50 m away.

In need for an instant tourist atraction and only 15 minutes to spare? Cross the road and have a stroll at the roof of the Opera House - a popular activity for both turists and Norwegians.

We had to leave early, however the staff served us breakfast 20 minutes ahead of time (ask in advance, as we did). Highly appreciated!

Oslo decided to rain the whole time we were there. How delightful to arrive by train, walk through areas of the station to get to the hotel, stay there with all of Oslo's shopping under roof, and leave via train to the airport. The staff was gracious and helpful, the rooms were interesting for their construction within a heritage building, and yes, we did go out in the rain to see the town.

Room Tip: Ask for 503 or 504 for the best views and unique architecture. Ask them to clean the throw rug though.
