Owner description: In addition to large areas of groomed trails and pists, you can also enjoy world class off-piste skiing, whereas Narvikfjellet has one of Scandinavia 's largest vertical drops and very good conditions for off-piste skiing. The resort is also suitable for families and beginners, who can take advantage of a separate children's lift and a customized childrens area. The Alpine skiing almost starts "downtown" ca. 200 meters above sea level, and the ski lifts take you up to 1006 m during 10-15 minutes. The spectacular view from the top of Narvikfjellet is unique, as the pists almost ends in the fjord. Narvikfjellet have a cable car that runs parallel to the 3 T- lifts. Both the cable car and the lifts takes you up to The Upper Mountain Lift Station 656 m. The chairlift takes you to the top of the ski area as the lift ends at 1006 m. From there you can walk another 300 meters to Tredjetoppen (third peek), the starting point for our world-class off-piste skiing!

I pre booked this lift as I wanted to go up on my birthday, unfortunately I didn't read the small print and on the day we were going it was quite windy so it didn't go up , fair enough, so we asked if we could go the next day and were told no the tickets couldnt be used on another day and you cant get your money back so I was quite miffed. no ride and no money !!!!!!!¬

Amidst the snow we first viewed the town before travelling with a group to the ski lift.
The surface approaching the entrance was very slippery and one had to watch cars manoeuvring in the car park.
Locals must have been very annoyed for as a group we jumped the queue and were given priority.
Waiting for the lift one could look up and see many enjoying skiing and skate boarding and then into the pod. Six of us, comfortable, but oh the windows smeared by scratches hindered what was truly a beautiful opportunity to view the town and fjord. The ride took about eight minutes with a pause half way while other pods were unloaded and loaded.
At the top there was a joyous view of the white surrounds. On the many slopes people were skiing and walking in the very crisp bright air. From the cafe, where we enjoyed coffee and a great cake, the windows allowed access to the scenic delight.
It was somewhat crowded and with skiers and their equipment a bit of an obstacle course in places. However, the views were captivating and, as the sun began to set the mountain was a white sea of colour!
The irritation of the scratched windows again prevailed on the return journey. But it was worth it.

This gondola ride takes you up 656 metres above sea level! When we were at the bottom, which seamed fairly calm, we were warned that if it was too windy at the top we would have to walk back down! After a gentle ride up when we got to the top it seemed very windy, so we had a fairly quick stay as we did not fancy walking down. Having said that there were spectacular views, as you would expect. There is a cafe at the top and viewing platforms. It is well worth a visit, as long as it is not too windy! One other point, we walked up a long and winding road up to the bottom station and when we got there we found out that it is on a local bus route. Use that and save your time and legs!
