The Clarion Collection Hotel Grand is the oldest hotel in Bodo, but has been thoughtfully modernised, and brought up to date very sympathetically.
It was the victim, as most of the town was, of a German air strike, in the 2nd World War, and was badly damaged.
In the rubble they found a huge mirror with carved, gilded frame, that had been hit by shrapnel. The mirror had a small piece of the glass missing in the bottom right corner, and big cracks running through the middle. Instead of throwing it away, they stabilised the cracks, made it safe, and it now stands by the dining room, as a reminder of what the town endured at that time.
The reception staff are wonderful, efficient, and will help and give advice on anything you require.
The rooms are on the small side, and not every one has a decent view, but are well equipped, and comfortable.
The bathrooms are again small, but very modern, with good shower, and fitments.
A fine, extensive, breakfast is included, with everything you could wish for.
The icing on the cake is that a complimentary evening meal is also included; this comprises, soup, a huge range of cold meats, cheeses, and salads, plus a good, hot, buffet. The night I stayed, the hot choice included chicken legs in barbecue sauce, with boiled rice, and mixed vegetables.
This is good news, because to eat out is very expensive, and the price of the hotel does not reflect the additional meal.
All in all a very good, friendly, hotel that does not break the bank.
