Cafe Diglas is apparently one of the newer Cafes operating under the Diglas banner (we have been to the Cafe Diglas in the Stephansdom area which is more traditional).
We visited this Cafe on our first evening in Vienna as it was near to our hotel and looked smart and welcoming, which indeed it was.
The waiter who greeted us asked us if we would like a menu in English and himself spoke excellent English and was happy to advise us on the local dishes.
Unfortunately the Venison Ragout had sold out when we arrived, but there are other hearty local dishes like Goulasch and Tapfelspitz. The soups are very good, and there are vegetarian dishes and salads.
This cafe is of course a Coffee House serving good coffee and drinks with the usual range of delicious looking cakes, strudels and other pastries.
We were glad we visited the cafe. We enjoyed the friendly service, and the ambience which included a resident pianist with a never ending repertoire of light musical pieces (but not one Strauss waltz, March or gallop!).
Families are welcome and one of the pleasures of the cafe is seeing the locals dropping in for a single coffee or a quick snack.
This does not seem to be a late night cafe. I think it closes at 10 pm, but we found that the tables were emptying by 9.00.
We made a return visit another evening and we're not disappointed.

Decided to skip the queue at Cafe Central & head here. Glad we did because it was perfect for what we wanted - a weiner schnitzel before heading home.

Decent weiner schnitzel with good potato salad. Reasonably priced, quick service & all authentic.
