What a surprise. A cosy place, friendly and passionate owners, and the best Seafood I have eaten that far away from the sea.

Super friendly + professional service.

We had a mixed seafood platter with some sidedishes. Never expected that awesome taste. I felt like i was seating next to the sea in croatia...but in a good way.

100% recommendation for that one!

Austria is landlocked, so it's not surprising that it's a desert for fishlovers. Traditional Austrian menus normally include an uninspiring fish dish based on a local freshwater fish. So it was a real surprise to find Tripadvisor listing a fish restaurant, and an even bigger one to find that it was really good.

Kaj is about a 5 minute walk from Praterstern U-bahn station. This is an unfashionable area, and the restaurant is on a side street, where it is unlikely to attract passing tourists. However it looks nice on the outside and the inside is simple, with a few tables and a small display of the fish of the day at the counter. The menu emphasises simple dishes based on fresh ingredients. I had the peppers in oil and garlic as a starter, very tasty. And then the grilled seafood, which consisted of salmon, a white sea fish (perhaps bass) calamari and prawns. Again in an oily sauce which emphasised the quality of the seafood itself. Perhaps the only disappointment is that the fish dishes came with an accompaniment of white bread - good for soaking up the lovely oil, but not the most inspired.

Overall a simple but really nice meal, and at a very reasonable price (2 courses, plus a glass of wine and coffee came to €26 without tip. I know that Vienna is a strange place to look for such aa seaside-style fresh fish restaurant, and if I had been to Kaj in a beach resort I would probably have given 4 instead of 5. But for its novelty and quality in such a meat-heavy city, it's worth it.

Miro's restaurant reminds me on Adriatic tastes and feelings. Friendly service, fresh fish, kind help to choose.
Highly recommended!
Do not forget the Grasevino to taste and drink!
