Owner description: The Spanish Riding School in Vienna is the only institution in the world which has practiced for more than 450 years and continues to cultivate classical equitation in the Renaissance tradition of the Haute Ecole - which can also be found on UNESCO's list of intangible cultural heritage of humanity. The performances of the horses trained by this famous equestrian school amazed audiences from all over the world.

Queue here, queue there. Oh but buy your ticket before you get in the queue. It is not made clear! Once you finally enter take the first seat you spot. People just stand anywhere so generally block views. Also very few people take notice of the ‘no photography’ rule. Our entire time was spent with people constantly walking past and waving cameras in front of our view. The €15 per person was too much just to watch the morning exercises. The horses were well turned out but generally just wandering round the ring for an hour. I would imagine it is much better to book a show.

Dear Ruth, we are sorry that you are disappointed. It is not only the morning exercises your are paying for, it is also the Winter Riding School and the whole setting. We also regret that guests ignore the photo prohibition. We are looking Forward to welcome you one day visiting a Performance. Sincere, Andrea Kerssenbrock

We went for the 10am lesson and we were in line about 9:40am. If you wait too late, you won’t get a front row seat and won’t be able to see as much. Very interesting to watch the riders exercise and train the horses and see how each horse differs in what they do best. Allow at least an hour to see more than one set of horses being worked but no need to stay the entire two hours. Very enjoyable!

To visit The Spanish Riding School of Vienna and see the beautiful Lipizzaner horses perform has been a long time dream. Now I finally visited Vienna and got to see the performance. It was beautiful!

A superb building, staff very accommodating and helpful, and the show was excellent. It is just over an hour long but you get to see most of it due to the height up from the show itself. We had seats so as we could look down. The horses and riders were amazing.

We bought tickets to the evening show to see the famous Lippizaner horses and riders, the show itself was good and lasted around 70 minutes with most of it in 10 minute segments interspersed with commentary about the next section.
We bought €50 seats which are along the side of the arena on the 2nd tier. As the balustrade is quite high we really has to stand to view properly but get an excellent view over the show aside from not seeing the horses when they are directly below.
The standing tickets are far cheaper and seeing where some people were cited they may have had a very limited view so I guess that those who were standing and got there early get the best view.
Overall, it’s a fantastic building and a good show of skill and horsemanship but possibly not justifying some of the higher seating costs!
But then again, it’s also a historic part of the city!
