The location of this hostel is fantastic-less than 10 minutes across the river from the old town. The room I stayed in (small dorm) was fairly good, and the bathroom was fine as well. Breakfast is less-than-adequate, with only 1 bread roll and a drink. I had to pay 2Euros for an hour on Internet-when I only needed it for 5 minutes. I later discovered if you walk 10 minutes to a McDonalds it's completely free! The hostel has a smoking section-and you have to cross it no matter what floor you are on-revolting! It is also extremely difficult to sleep with the noise from the street downstairs all night. I don't think I would stay here again-despite its great location, I much prefer the HI hostel behind the castle-quieter, free WiFi, great breakfast there...however this place was the only place able to accommodate me with 2 days' notice on the first night of the Festspiele, so I can't complain!

Our main concern with this place is that we specifically booked it because they claim to have a kitchen. The kitchen consisted of dirty benches, no cutlery, a microwave, a hotplate, gross sponges, moldy dish brush and no cleaning products what so ever. We did notice some fridges but only when we went down to ask we were given a key but nobody said anything about cutlery or cleaning products. Please also note you not only have to walk through the smoking room to get to the dining room, it is also right next to it. The bathrooms were not too bad and the rooms were clean. During the night, however, the noise was terrible for anyone but a heavy sleeper (windows open or shut) and continued until 6am on a thursday night when the church bells began ringing. Perhaps also not ideal for hot nights as we were sweating even with the windows open. The staff were rude and the breakfast was a piece of bread with butter and jam and juice. The one great thing was the location but unfortunately not enough to convince us to stay here again.

We had a triple room. It was spartan (dorm room like but with private bath), but clean and the location is very good. You can't beat the value (we paid 68 euro/day including breakfast and parking, which in central Sz. can be some 20 euro/day). The breakfast was OK but simple (a few pieces of bread and butter, jam, and cream cheese, plus coffee/tea/milk/juice), quite ok for me. The only problem: it is quite hard to drive in, very confusing.... get good directions before coming! Internet was 2 euro/hr. :)

Walking distance (5 minutes) to old city centre gates. Breakfast left a lot to be desired. There is a laundry, ask for key.

In general, a nice, friendly and clean place with basic amenities in the en-suite rooms. It is excellently located inside the historic center of the town, a 5 mins walk over the bridge away from the Mozart House. Do not forget to climb the close-by Kapuziner-Mountain for a great view over the city. A few negative aspects of this accommodation: the reception remains closed from 12-4 o’clock daily (we were warned that this was the case though- but there wasn’t even a locker or a luggage room to store our luggage and visit the town during their 4hour-lunchbreak). Also, the breakfast was extremely extremely austere even for times like these: one semi-fresh roll per person and a coffee or tea; no cereals or anything else; just 1 package of prefabricated cheese on the plate and one pot of jam on the table – still a decent place, but make sure you are comfortable with this set-up before booking. Internet in the rooms is bookable if you have your own laptop with you (2 Euros per hour).
