I think this hotel is good value for money. We stayed in August and it´s all very beautiful nearby. Nive outdoor pool across road ( dangerous road for kids), biggest spa I´ve ever seen which must be great in winter after skiing. room clean. Decor very traditional. The only hesitation we had is that it is so so noisy. The road keeps you awake all night. The room is baking hot and if you have the balcony door open the road keeps you awake with cars zooming past. also the staff clear up very noisily at 7.30 every morning which woke us up once we´d finally got to sleep. annoying. Food wise great selection and good value and very fast service if lacking a bit of flair and smiles.

We last stayed in Andorra in 1999 and, feeling like a change to going to the Alps, decided it was time to revisit. We were a little uncertain on whether it was good idea because some of the reviews for the area were quite patchy. We had previously stayed in one of the sister hotels (Sport Hotel), which whilst the holiday was okay, we felt the customer service was a bit lacking. This holiday must rate as one of our best ever and is largely down to the Sport Hotel Village. The management should be congratulated on the way they run this hotel and look after their guests.

Booking quite early in the year, we were able to secure a Junior Suite, which had uninterrupted views up and down the valley and straight at the Els Espiolets. The suite was very large, with plenty of storage, huge bed, separate living room (with fold down bed), balcony, separate toilet and bidet, jacuzzi bath, separate shower and twin basins.

Our welcome at reception was very friendly and very efficiently dealt with. Any queries that we had during the week and the manner of our departure were equally dealt with the same way.

The hotel is larger than we would normally choose and understandbly breakfast and evening meals were in a buffet style, with drinks in the eveing being by waiter/waitress service. The breakfast was traditional continental style with fruit, cereals, cheese, ham etc and was always very fresh and of a high stand. The evening meals were usually soup, salad a selection of cooked mains and desert. These were equally of a high standard - particularly the fish and meat cooked freshly on the hot plate, although some of the accompaniment dishes I felt were a little heavy for the warm weather . The wine list was exceptionally good! We found all of the waiters and waitresses extremely friendly and very patient with my stumbling Spanish!

The bar was large with a patio area offering spectacular views of the valley. Service and selection was again good, although with a number of tours staying in the hotel whilst we were there, meant that service could sometimes be a little slow.

As part of our booking we had a free session in the spa complex built between the Sport Village and the sister Hermitage Hotel. This is the best water spa I have ever been in and saved the effort of going down to Escaldes to use Caldea. Mulitple specialities such as steam rooms, saunas, jacuzzis were completed with a large indoor/outdoor pool. We also took advantage of the treatment rooms which were wonderful! On a number of days we used the pool at the Sport Hotel for lounging and sunbathing.

The suite was kept very clean throughout our stay.

Soldeu is a nice quiet village in early summer and offered us all the hill walking we wanted either straight from the village, or easy travelling on the local bus.

We certainly will not be leaving it 12 years before we come back!!

Room Tip: Book a Junior Suite - you will not be disappointed!

I went to this hotel for a ski vacation with my 18 year old son;/ The room we got was excellent, plenty of space, clean, very comfortable beds, view right out to the ski lift and slope. I very much recommend it to anyone heading to Andorra for a ski vacation. Great ski school and lots of slopes, different difficulties and great for beginers. We recomend the teacher Sarah and also Stuart F. Had a lot of fun and if you have a car you can travel all around Andorra which is a very cute country in about an hour.
The only thing the hotel didn't have was programs on the t.v. in English, no movies all in Spanish or French.

It has a good location being above the main cabin lift to the slopes. The reception and bar area are beautifully panelled in wood and nice and restful. The bedrooms are fine except that as in all of Andorra the hotels sit on the main through roads through the principality which are used by heavy lorries and it is noisy especially if facing the road. This covers most of the rooms in the sports Hotel, a fair number in the Sports Village but not sure about the 5 star version as rooms maybe air-conditioned. So ask for a quiet room ( if not be prepared to move or buy ear-plugs). The same comment would apply to most hotels in soldeau, Canillo etc, unless air-conditioned..
We have stayed before and have never had a problem with service, e.g. parking my car, taking our skis to the locker room etc. Bar staff were always friendly as were waitresses in restaurant, though trying to say a few words in spanish always helps, (Andorra speak Catalan but staff come from anywhere but mostly spain).
Restaurant food is Ok being buffet style and its not grand cuisine but plenty of choice.
We knew spa charged-it is an amazing spa with 6 jacuzzis, 3 swimming pools, 6 saunas/steam rooms and in theory you need to book a time but if not busy they are very relaxed. Value for money.
One gets room deals on the internet so don't buy at rack rates, even reception will tell you that, It will always be busy at weekends being close to Barcelona so as ever don't go at peak/Spanish holiday times. Mid week January was very quiet.
We would stay again but choose our room carefully.
re reference to russians being favoured I think staff were relieved we weren't Russian !
There are "british pubs" owned by the chain which are apparently lively and fun.
The Hotel is fine and we will go again but clearly you pay for the facilities and the location. Cheaper hotels exist on the grandvalira ski area but their location is not so good.
The sports hotel (across the road) as distinct from the sports hotel village although owned by the same chain has more package ski holiday operators and is cheaper but rooms are generally noisy or face the mountain. You get what you pay for as ever.

The Sport Hotel Village is one of the three hotels in the Sport Complex, and provides direct access to the gondola and chair lift to the ski slopes. The hotel itself is organized nicely. Most people are on the "half-board" plan, meaning both breakfast & dinner are provided. We only had breakfast in our room rate, which meant if you ate at the restaurant it will cost you 25euro per person. The meal is good, but you can get better deals at other restaurants in Soldeu.

The biggest complaint, which goes for all public areas, is that smoking is permitted. Sitting in the lounge gets pretty bad once the smokers begin to light up. Until Andorra passes a law banning smoking indoors, this will continue to be a problem. This is the one thing that will keep me from returning to Andorra.

The skiing is good, but conditions are variable. If you get there when its snowing, it is great. However if you have to deal with warm weather like I did in January there will be a lot of bare spots and ice. Overall, the slopes are for intermediates and beginners but will keep experts at least entertained. Their black runs would likely be blues in the US.

I would recommend the hotel given its location and friendly staff, but be prepared to be smoked out. Also be aware that if you are not staying in the 5-Star Sport Hotel Hermitage, you will need to pay for certain benefits such as the hot tub (jacuzzi). Access to the hot tub will cost 45 euro and requires a reservation. Internet access is available in the lobby only, and is free if you have your own computer.
