The collection was initiated by the enlightened Demetrios Pierides in the 19th century and has been systematically enriched. The Pierides Museum is conveniently located in the commercial center of the city of Larnaka, parallel to the sea front. It can be characterized as one of the most important private museums of Cyprus, since the collection contains a significant and characteristic presentation of the civilization of Cyprus through the centuries. The Archaeological Collection is housed in the former, colonial style, residence of the Pierides family, built in 1825, where the visitor can travel through the ages covering 9000 years of the island's history, beginning from Neolithic times through to the Bronze Age, Geometric, Archaic, Hellenistic, Roman and Byzantine - Medieval Age.A very important cartography collection of old maps and charts of Cyprus and the Eastern Mediterranean is also housed in the Museum, as well as the prized collection of Greek and Roman glassware.

It may not compete with large-scale public museums in other countries, but as a small private collection, it is remarkable.

The most captivating and beautiful part of the collection, in my view, is the ceramics, with some very unusual designs. There is also a photo exhibition with inscrutable purpose.

Some of the signage is poorly lit, inconveniently placed and with fonts designed for eagles. But most displays are attractively laid out.

This is a small private museum that takes 1 hour to visit. It exhibits the collection of Pierides family. I was told at the reception that the a certain Mr. Pierides stills lives on the second floor of the house. An interesting collection of ancient Greek pottery is on display. The museum has a small but nice gift shop that includes many carefully selected items.

If you like ancient Cypriot pottery and figurines displayed in an old mansion, then this is a nice spot to kill twenty minutes, and the entry fee is minimal.

This is a rather small museum with 4 or 5 exhibit rooms pretty much covering the entire span of history up to the Ottoman period. First off there aren't actually that many exhibit. The museum has tried to make up for quality with mostly very good artefacts and a few truly exceptional pieces. Each room has a few paragraphs of description, a few of the display cabinets have additional information and a few of the exceptional pieces get even more information.

The whole visit would maybe take at most ann hour. Although small and only a few truly exciting pieces, it's well worth the money at only 3 euros. So I'm giving the museum an extra star.
