We spent a week here in April. Our room, despite me booking a deluxe room was very basic, no balcony and a view over the backstreets. My bed creaked every time I moved and was very uncomfortable. The small fridge had obviously not been cleaned before our arrival as when we opened it water flooded out and the door came off in our hands every time we used it. The air conditioning was not working but we did have a fan. The shower was adequate as was the cleaning.

Breakfasts were very basic, I tried to get an omelette but each time was told to wait for 10 minutes so I didn't bother. The fresh fruit salad was apple, orange and a few grapes with slices of melon. No lovely platters of fresh fruit, just tinned pineapple and peaches occasionally. We too chased round for cutlery and never had a teaspoon for our drinks, having to use our fork handle to remove t-bags. This was despite asking for spoons. The pastries were very disappointing.

Evening meals too were adequate but nothing to get excited about. The salad bar was acceptable. We did find the waiters to be lacking in personality and also customer skills.

As mentioned there is a bus stop opposite the hotel but we found a lot of the buses didn't stop as they were full and one morning we had to wait for 30 minutes for a bus to Valletta.

Overall I fail to see how this hotel is classed as a 4* hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view room.

Location:
The location of the Preluna Hotel is great. Situated in Sliema between the heavily touristic hotspot of Valletta and the party hotspot of St. Julians Sliema is a bit of more relaxing while still offering a lot of good restaurants and is just a 20 minute bus drive away from Maltas capital with all the historic sites. There is a bus stop opposite the hotel, where public buses like 13,13a,14 or 16 stop on their way to Valletta. Also the Hop- on Hop-Off Buses of MaltaSightseeing and CitySightseeing are stopping there. It is also just a 15 minute walk to the Sliema Ferry. Some good local restaurants like the "Ta' Karolina" or "La Cuccagna" are just a few minutes away, also the "Sciantusi" restaurant a mixture of italian and american (burgers) I can recommend and is integrated in the hotel. As a Preluna Hotel Guest you get a 10% discount if you show your room card.

Room:
We booked a double room without seaview and got a room with two single beds that we compiled together at the 11th floor. Nice view over Sliema. Beds okay but the pillows were pretty hard and far from cosy. The room and furniture is outdated and needs a complete renovation. The windows were pretty leaky and there was water leaking in after a storm and it almost felt the wind is spinning through the room so loud it was. We couldn't sleep for most part of the night. Windows were pretty dirty too. As a result of the leaky windows there was mould around the window area we discovered not until later and the wall was moistly. The finery crumbled as a result. We would have demanded another room if we had discovered it earlier. Some signs of mold also in the bathroom. The air conditioning did nothing to reduce the heat in the room. Cleanliness was barely acceptable. Quality management obviously failed they shouldn't give this room away to any guests!

Breakfast:
Breakfast was okay, nothing special and of average quality but not much to complain about it.

Staff:
The Staff was friendly and helpful especially John from the reception at our departure early in the morning was pretty open-heartead and the only Maltese that showed us some southern warm-heartedness.

The Rest:
Don't expect much from the indoor or outdoor pools. We used the indoor pool once and it was pretty tiny and could use more attention from the cleaning staff. The Preluna has some potential but need some investments into the renovation of the rooms, furniture etc.

We stayed at the hotel last week and it was just not good. The air conditioning did not work as it should and even if it’s only the beginning of May the temperature in the rooms is far too hot to get a good night sleep. Complaining about it at the reception doesn’t have any results and overall the reception staff is not interested at all in the well-being of there guests. The general condition of the rooms is far below exceptable. Ther is a lot of overdue maintenance on all fronts. The cleaning of the rooms was insufficient. Breakfast is acceptable but the place where it is presented too small so they opened another place to sit which is not occupied to present breakfast. Heard a lot of complaints from other guests during our stay so for as far we’re concerned never again.

Room Tip: Don’t take a budget room, it’s situated on the south and with an insufficient air conditioner the temperature will be terrible at night.

We stayed here with a large group but would not normally stay in a hotel in such a built up area. We thought it was good value,in a convenient sea front location and clean. The staff were friendly and efficient if a bit rushed .
A minor point,I asked for a toothbrush as I had forgotten one and it did not arrive in our room .Reception tried to find one but apparently only 'Housekeeping' had them and they had gone home. Perhaps a few items could be kept in reception for guests who need them out of Houskeeping hours, after all the room information states they are available .
The public areas are quite large with comfortable seating and a bar. We did not use the spa but I heard from friends tnat it was fine. The top floor has an excellent view but sadly the bar area there was closed during most of our stay, a pity refurbishment could not be done in the winter! The outdoor pool area was closed as well. The sundeck was nice but it had no sun umbrellas or shade except in the entrance area so I was unable to read while lounging there.
Breakfast was OK but poorly presented and crowded. I had to hunt for cutlery almost every day. The coffee was good as were the pastries with a good but there was a good, basic cooked breakfast. .I avoided the yogurts as they were longife ones .The food at our 'Gala dinner' was good and the service was friendly and efficient. We ate at the Italian restaurant Sciantusi ,linked to the hotel and had a poor experience. (See seperate review.)
Our friends ate at the Japanese restaurant there and found it good.
The room was clean and acceptable but rather hot and drab. The bathroom was fine but some of the grouting needed redoing and the toiletries were of a poor quality, most in dispensers. The ceiling fan was appreciated but rather noisy at night.
Overall we enjoyed our stay.
