We were only in Iceland for a short stopover, but Skuggi Hotel was a terrific home base. The room was stylish, with plenty of storage space and comfortable beds. The location was very close to the main downtown area of Reykjavik, but on a quiet side street. Breakfast buffet was absolutely perfect -- pastries, fresh fruit, Skyr, and also bacon, smoked salmon, eggs, granola -- anything you could possibly want.

This place had by far the best blackout drapes situation. Nice and dark. This is important in the summer!!! Also the best breakfast with the most variety. It’s an easy walk to everything. We were able to get parking in the underground garage but we always seemed to get the last space. If we go back I will definitely stay here again.

We also stayed one night in the Storm Hotel of the same brand of properties down the street and liked Skuggi more, if you’re on the fence. It was slightly better all around, although they were both totally fine.

We were a little warm in our room because there is only one little square of window that opens and the duvet is really warm. But the hotel had already added a portable fan, which helped. I couldn’t handle all the heavy duvets all over the country (and really all over Europe) My bright idea for next time is I’m going to pack my own top sheet so I can be under something that doesn’t boil me alive at night. That issue was not specific to this hotel, that was everywhere. Just FYI for my fellow hot sleepers.

Don’t get me wrong though, June in Iceland is frigging freezing! We wore a full set of long underwear every day. The wind is something else!

Busy hotel, rooms perfectly adequate for a short stay and are quiet away from the bustle of the reception area! Bar area with ‘happy hour’. Breakfast was good, plentiful and typically Icelandic! The hotel does not have a restaurant but it’s ideal location is a few minutes away from the renowned Laugavegur shopping area with a vast array of restaurants. Reception staff helpful with our sightseeing queries.

Skuggi was exactly the right hotel for us and we will stay there anytime we visit Reykjavik. The staff is very friendly and helpful, both on the phone (I called a couple times before our stay) and in person. The location is perfect - just around the corner from Bus Stop 9 (Snorrabraut) where all the tour buses stop - and a quick walk to anywhere in the city. Prior reviews raved about the breakfast buffet and we can't say enough about how great it is, with both hot and cold offerings to please any taste. The staff constantly replenished everything so no matter how busy the dining room was, we always could find what we wanted to eat. As well as a table. We enjoyed happy hour in the lobby bar and sampled Icelandic beers. Our double room was small and still there was plenty of space for us and our luggage, especially since we were out most of the time. The bed (we had ours made up as a king) was extremely comfortable. We loved the twin duvets, which kept us perfectly warm, and the pillows were very nice - medium loft. All linens were perfectly clean, as was the room. Shower water pressure was excellent. There isn't much counter space in the bathroom, but there's a shelf unit just outside the bathroom with plenty of room to store your toiletries. Heating is as everyone said; very efficient and we usually had the windows open! Wifi worked great. Skuggi's decor is very appealing - simple and functional design, relaxing colors. All in all, a really great hotel experience. Thank you, Skuggi!

Just what was needed. Room was clean and inviting. It’s a crash pad with a touch of luxury. Breakfast was fantastic. Lots to eat fresh and exciting. You can certainly load up for the day with such an assortment of foods to choose from. Everyone was friendly and helpful with an assortment of shops nearby. Will be back with my family in the near future x
