Having never stayed in a guesthouse before I was a little unsure as to what to expect. If I'm honest, I wasn't thrilled about sharing a bathroom but I really had nothing to be concerned about!
After a flight delay we arrived at almost midnight and were dropped off in the town by our transfer bus. Thankfully the guesthouse is located so close to town that we only had to walk for a few minutes before we found it. We had a bit of trouble with the key safe but were able to call Jonathan and were let in immediately!
The guesthouse is full of lovely, funny little signs on the walls, including one asking us to remove our shoes at the door. We didn't mind at all, I appreciated the cleanliness and actually we felt it added to the homely feel.
We stayed in Room 6 and were so impressed as soon as we walked in! It was a beautiful room; a great size for 2 people, lovely and cosy in the evening and it was bright and airy when the sun came in the next morning. The ONLY improvement I would suggest is that we didn't have anywhere to hang our clothes and would have preferred a double bed to two singles pushed together. Other than that we had no complaints at all!
Breakfast the next morning was more than we could have expected! It was delicious. We helped ourselves to juice, tea and coffee whilst our breakfast was freshly prepared for us. The staff are so friendly and made us feel very welcome.
My partner proposed to me on our last night in Reykjavik and after a whirlwind evening of celebrating and watching the northern lights, the Captain Reykjavik Guesthouse was a lovely retreat to relax before our early morning flight home. It definitely played a part in making our trip memorable and we both considered it to be a home from home.
We paid in advance for breakfast before our airport transfer time was brought forward. They very kindly refunded this amount to us when we returned home.
We will definitely be recommending the Captain Reykjavik Guesthouse to anyone travelling to Reykjavik!
