It is a great place to stay for exploring old town Reykjavik

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 4 weeks ago
A delightful place to stay near the docks in the old area of Reykjavik. The exterior of the building suggests that it may have been used for an industrial purpose at one time, but the interior is quite modern and charming. The lobby has a cute fireplace that serves as a gathering spot. Rooms are a bit small but well designed and bright, with plenty of plug ins for electronic devices.

My room was on an upper floor and had a door leading to my balcony-which would have been delightful if the weather had been sunny.

Because our shuttle to the airport left before they started serving breakfast, they packed a two go bag with two sandwiches, fruit, fruit juice, drinkable yogurt, and a candy bar. All that was lacking was coffee or tea which you could obtain free in the reception desk.

The hotel was comfortable and in a great location, easy walk to center and on harbor with restaurants close by. Breakfast was fine, nice fruit, meusli, skyr and also warm food. Converted form former commercial building, done well, has elevators.

This is a very cozy hotel located near major attractions in Reykjavik. We had a car but we left it parked and walked to everywhere including Hallgrímskirkja.

Our room had a bunk bed, which was fun. The room and the bathroom were clean. The bathroom had hooks to hang your towels! The hotel staff were nice and friendly.

There is a nice bar/restaurant inside the hotel. If you forgo housekeeping, they offer 1000 ISK per day to use it at the hotel bar, which is enough to get a beer or wine during happy hours, which we took advantage of.

As a first time visitor to this hotel, we could not find the entrance to the hotel right away. The entrance is not located on the Myrargata road. If you are driving, turn on to the Hlesgata road, and take the first right turn to the hotel entrance.

The only bad is the proximity to the road (Myrargata) from the hotel rooms. The hotel is about a few meters from a pretty busy road and you will hear all kind of noises. We were on the first floor and the noises from the cars were loud enough that it kept us up late and woke us up early. We really enjoyed the hotel but couldn't wait to get out of it at the same time. Do request for higher floor rooms if you sensitive to noise.

As much as we liked the hotel, we probably will not stay here again, unless we can get rooms on the higher floors.

Room tip: Do ask for rooms on the hire floors as the street noise is higher than normal.

This is a very stylish and very clean hotel. I apricated how unique it was in design. However, after spending time at another hotel in the city I just thought I would mention a few downsides if you are travelling with a family. One, you are about a 25 minute walk from the main attractions of the city, which isn't normally a big deal but with kids we apricated our second night much closer to the lake than the ocean. Two, because we were a family of four they put us in a room that was below ground level. We had no view except if we opened the windows we could see peoples feet walking by on the sidewalk. Twice people peeked into our room from the street. Three, don't trust google maps for precise directions. You have to drive towards the free parking lot next to it and then park there or in the alley if there are spots. If walking you need to walk down the alley to the entrance. Again, not a big deal (and you get to see ships in dry dock) but something we wish we had known before circling around it trying to find the entrance.

Amazing little hotel! I was so happy when my daughter and I checked in and saw our room I was disappointed that we were only there for a one night stay-over before flying home to Canada from France. They put us on the top floor with a huge balcony and the bed was so comfortable we could have slept the whole next day. The location is great and in walking distance of a lot of amenities. The front desk staff was great. Super friendly and helpful. My husband and I plan to visit Iceland next year and I will definitely be booking this hotel. I've stayed in a lot of hotels and this was probably one of my favourites. I wish we could have spent a week!

Room tip: The balconies on the top floor are much more spacious than the lower floors.

We had a lovely room that was plenty big enough, nice large comfortable bed, coffee making facilities provided and a mini fridge. Wifi signal was great and nice toiletries provided. We loved the decor of the hotel and the bar and lounges which were really relaxing. We had breakfast included in our package and also thought that was really good as well with a really good variety on offer. The location of the hotel was excellent, free parking a real bonus, working harbour also interesting to walk around. The staff are brilliant, friendly and welcoming. We couldn't find anything not to like about it and would not hesitate to book again. Excellent value too!

Room tip: The free parking is a gravelled area by the side of the hotel
