Perfect Location

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 10 May 2020
The hotel was clean and very accommodating. The restaurant was OK for breakfast but you can do much better with a short walk. We were there the week before the shut down and it was very slow which was actually perfect but always enjoy meeting people as well.

The staff was accommodating and it was especially nice, to have a small refrigerator in the unit. The grocery store is right around the corner and made the trip A LOT less expensive.

Easy walking distance to town, restaurants, the water, bars etc.

Happy Hour was with out a doubt the best. Highly recommend the Whiskey Sour.
Date of stay: March 2020
Room Tip: Rooms on the street side can be a bit noisy but we didn't mind the traffic.

We stayed at Icelandair Hotel Reykjavik Marina because it came recommended on a blog that we read. And all in all, it was pleasant. It is located right next to the Marina at the end of the long street that has the harbor, other hotels, and restaurants.

Inside:
The inside of the hotel was really fun, quirky, and modern. They have a bar located inside and you will find MANY posters directing you to try it around the hotel.

The room:
VERY SMALL, but served its purpose and was still very charming. We got a marina view which was gorgeous even with alot of the work sites located right outside. You get a nice view of the ocean and mountains if you look past the construction work. We even had a cute little balcony. The bed was very comfortable. My only issue was the bathroom which was TINY! The sink is the size of a large bowl and which made teeth brushing or makeup removal a little messy. The shower isnt enclosed so the water runs through the entire bathroom. Other than that the room was great for our weekend stay.

Food:
We had the breakfast 2 out of our 4 days and it as yummy. They serve "enough" but it isnt extravagant by any means. Eggs, bacon, oatmeal, yogurt, bread and jam, and veggies. It is quite expensive for what they serve but it was convenient on excursion days.

Location:
It was overall a beautiful location right by the marina and having the ocean and mountain view. One of the best perks was the Blue Bus shelter that is RIGHT OUTSIDE, which was perfect for all day tours and excursions since the busses pick you up right there. If you choose to stay here and are booking day trips DO NOT get the "Blue Bus Shelter" which is located right outside confused with "Bus stop Number 4" which is down the street. Most day trips ask where you'd like to be picked up and dropped off and a few guest complained that they weren't aware the two stops were different, after missing a bus.

Overall we really enjoyed our stay.

Stayed here for 4 nights in January and it was great. From the moment we arrived until we left, everything was superb.
On arrival the staff were both friendly and helpful. They checked we had everything we needed, including excursions, and helped change the pickup point so we didn’t need to walk as far.
The choice at breakfast was exceptional and the food was very tasty. We also had dinner there on the last night, and again the service and food were excellent.
I was a little concerned before we arrived about the location of the hotel, but this was misguided.
We were able to walk down to Grótta lighthouse (about 45minutes each way) and were lucky enough to see the Northern Lights which was the highlight of our stay.
Would gladly stay there again if we ever went back.

Hotel was clean, quaint. Staff was friendly and helpful with any questions you would have. They had social hour daily with complimentary wine and snacks. A great time to meet people. The manager was knowledgeable about the area and told us some points of interest. Good place to view the Northern Lights.

Nice hotel for the reported 3 star rating. We got there before check in and they had nothing for us although there would have been a surcharge of 3k isk. The counter fellow took our bags into the office until check in. He was not motivated at all. Being a package from Icelandair, one would think an overnight flight would have you in your room but no. They suggest buying an extra night (the night you are actually flying over the ocean). No biggie but you will be battle fatigue as the day goes on. Also, the satellite feed is weak. Don't even try to watch the 3 channels they have. We like the location as is just minutes to our fav spots in the downtown. Will we book there again? Maybe.

Room tip: Ask for harbor side room. Street side is too loud.

Very hip boutique hotel. We paid for the early check in as we got to the hotel around 7am and I didn’t want to wait until the afternoon to check in. Really wasn’t a lot- About $25 US.
If you don’t want to pay the extra, you can hang out in the lobby, there’s lot of seating.
Rooms are a nice size. We had an awesome view facing the harbor. Our room had a nice balcony, though we didn’t go out because it was so cold.
The bathroom is stocked with Lotion, soap, shampoo, conditioner and a hairdryer.
We asked for extra pillows because the pillows were a little too thin for me.
if you forgo the cleaning they give you 750 kroner to be used at the restaurant. What a great idea!! Love that Iceland is so green.
We forgot our adapters and were able to borrow one from the front desk.
The bar has very very good cocktails. Bartender Astros did a fabulous job. We tried the whisky sour, Cheshire Cat and the March hare.
We also tried the bread with pesto which was simple but good. The bar gets pretty busy at night.
The front desk is 24/7 and everyone was super helpful. A shout out to Tino, Who was really nice.
The first floor lobby has a cinema, but we were so busy during the day we didn’t get a chance to try it out. If you are a large party, there are lots of small rooms off the lobby for the whole group to hang out in. I thought that was really nice.
There’s also a ATM in the lobby if you need cash.
Breakfast buffet was decent. My only complaint was that the stuff was all the same every day. I think they needed to shake it up a bit by varying the menu.
The first day we checked in we didn’t have breakfast, so we walked to Sandholt bakery. Little pricey but very good pastries.
The hotel is situated from all the restaurants and bars between 1 and 20 mins away. Great location to explore the city by foot.
Something to note: If you are getting pick ups from tour companies, this hotel is usually the first pick up, so be there at the very beginning of your half hour window. In fact the drivers are usually a couple of mins early. We found out the hard way when we missed our bus.:(
If you do miss your bus, take a cab to the departing bus terminal and you should be able to catch it. The front desk will call the cab and it’s there in less than 3 mins.
We loved our stay at this hotel and I would highly recommend it.
