The light switches in the room are almost impossible to figure out. There is a panel for lights near the front door that is not clearly labeled with instructions on how to use it. At one point I was unable to turn the lights off completely when we were ready to go to sleep. I had to call for help from the reception desk, and the clerk admitted the panel was "tricky," but was able to talk me through it. When I asked why the control panel is not more clearly labeled (you need to press and hold for fade up or fade down... and you need to press twice quickly for on/off), I was told that the designers preferred a "clean look" to guest convenience. This is ridiculous. There is also a button to tell the staff to make up the room. I did press it (and noticed the alert symbol outside the door), but 5 hours later, the room had not been made up. Only later did I notice the tiny card telling me I had to call by phone to housekeeping to request their service. In addition, the other light switches in the room (bathroom, bedside reading lights) are all black-on-black, making them difficult to see. I also had to really search for the coffee maker, which is hidden behind what appears to be a wooden panel, but is actually a cabinet door. Inside, the coffee maker slides out, but you don't see any cups! I called reception desk and the clerk told me she would send up cups. Later, on the second call (still no cups) the clerk told me to look in drawer above the machine (the first clerk didn't know. The drawer, again, is black black black. All it would take with any of this is some tasteful labels in attractive typefaces and both designers and guests would be happy.
