Very practical & clean hostel in a perfect location for driving to touristic spots.
Location: in Hali farm. From Route 1, you will see a sign of the farm. As a reference, beside the route 1, there is a museum with a wall of book covers, that is Hali. I could never understand it very well, but the hostel is in Hofn, not sure if is a Municipality, because Hofn the town is almost 66 km apart (55 minutes approx.) or what but be careful if you are looking to stay in/close to Hofn the town.
Service: we arrived around 7 pm, coming from Svartifoss (less than 1 hour / 70 km) and Toppa (I hope I wrote it correctly) received us. All the time with a natural smile in her face, she realized that we were from México and she told us she used to live in there a long time ago. She explained everything to us without problem. One thing that I really appreciated was that 1 week prior our arrival, the hostel sent us an e-mail (screenshot) that any other hotel from Iceland did: they point out that charges were done correctly, what was included and what not, how to arrive and some practical advices. This small detail most of the times make a big difference.
Room: enough space for 1 night or more if you are not going to stay in the room; just what you need as a base to explore part of the southern region. They have rooms for 2, 3 or 4 people; all beds seem to be individual however very comfortable. We also stayed during winter, and the hostel was incredible warm inside. All rooms shared bathroom, but in the room, you have your own wash basin. In the lower floor there was a complete bathroom and a bathroom just with the toilet, not remember if there was another bathroom in the second floor.
Facilities: the dining area is small and just 4 people make you feel crowded. The shared restrooms were very clean, the water pressure was ok. Enough parking lots. Wi-Fi working very well.
Others: perfect place to stay if you are coming from / going to Jökulsárlón or Diamond Beach. Hali is the closest place to stay if you are planning to go to those places.
This place offers you (included in the price) Skyr’s, the popular Icelandic yogurt, so if you hasn’t try it, this could be your chance – Not sure if the name of the hostel is related to the yogurt in some way.
