Iceland was truly magical - the people so warm and kind. Our stay at Hotel Hofn was made extra special by the hotel owner and his family. We were warmly greeted, he fixed my broken suitcase, alerted us to the Northern Lights (!!) and gave us a tour of the lovely town! Dinners were excellent and the service fabulous.

The rooms are decent sized, good layout and clean. No refrigerator, coffee/tea making facilities, though they were not important to us. The rates are reasonable too. The wifi was super! The best part about it is obviously the view!

My evaluation goes not only to the hotel physically but to the people who work there. The hotel per si is wonderfully located by a glacier lagoon with impressive views (be sure to ask for a room with this view). Our room didn´t have a great view and maybe could have been a little bit bigger not to mention the humongous shelf right on top of the tiny wash basin which made washing your teeth and act of agility to fit your head in between. But all these details are nothing after having seen the aurora borealis in all it´s glory thanks to the kindness and effort of Mr. Eymundsson (one of the managers) who so kindly and free of charge offers his car and orientation to the guests who want the privileged view or the aurora. He took us out 2 kms maybe to a darker place where we had a wonderful show of nature. It´s not that by yourself you aren´t able to see it, even from the hotel it was very visible, but having someone who knows the odds better helps. He even took our photo seeing that our camera wasn´t up to the task and sent us the next day along other impressive shots.
The breakfast was perhaps the lower point, with not much variety but that´s valid in almost all hotels in Iceland because all fruit is imported, so no ripe fruit or fresh made orange juice.
Definitely worth it any how!

This is a nice clean and relatively spacious place to stay. The local lobster (langoustine) is very tasty in the restaurant. Can be a bit hard to identify as it only has a flag with its name on it.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the sea.

My only complaint about this hotel was finding it! We kept thinking it was a hospital and drove past it 4 times before seeing the little flag!

After that though, we had a nice stay there. Like every other place we stayed (13 different hotels on our trip there) it was simple, but clean and comfortable with a great staff. Had dinner at the lobster place across town, but had the breakfast here which was great.
