Maybe 3 star hotel. Stayed in the main building. It's old and worn - carpet has holes. Staff not around much.

Pros: Clean. Beds are comfortable and views are nice.

Cons: weird room layout - small sitting area with narrow stairs up to bed. One small window opens so room gets hot and stuffy easily. No view from bed. Showers are weird and right next to toilet. Shampoo, soap and conditioner all in one. No outlet in bathroom.

After reading the dining reviews, we opted to drive to the Settlement to eat and glad we did.

I'd spend the $ and stay in the Villas, which look very nice.

Room Tip: Would avoid the main building and stay in the Villas

Glymer was the best class hotel we stayed at during our drive around Iceland. Nice rooms with adequate facilities included a TV and refrigerator. Beds with a view were upstairs in a loft. A comprehensive breakfast was included in their pleasant dining area. Free wifi was included.

The hotel had a large lounge with views and its own library with an internet connected computer.

We were delighted with the standard of accommodation which was far better than any other hotel we stayed at during our drive around the country.

This can't possibly be one of the top hotels in Iceland --- even a county with a thin supply of quality hotels.

Let's attempt the highlights --- decent sized room, wonderful views and clean.

The negatives ---- very young and inexperienced staff without any senior leadership that I could see , decor is old and worn, service spotty, food average at best and the "world famous hot tub" without actual bubbles....it's a tub of hot water!!!!

I was already wary about this hotel from the website and general appearance --- my fears where unfortunately realized. The exterior looks worn, in need of a paint job and general repair. The overall "shabby" "quirky" sell is really just a cover up for old, outdated and uncared. I found the siting area with it 1970s leather, the IKEA dinning room furniture all tiresome and outdated.

The room we had was two levels, sitting area with the bed above it --- quiet comfortable and our room had a wonderful view onto the water. The room was by far the best part of the entire stay.

The dinning room has slow service coupled with food that was actually a bit above average. However, the drab decor and general uncaring ambience just made for eat and run environment.

Maybe better days have passed but the current reality is a very average experience and rather disappointing.

Avoid if possible.

Driving up to this place it may not look like much. But once you are inside, WOW! Great art work all over, and book, books, books. Cute rooms with a loft for the beds. Even enjoyed the downstairs main bathroom. Hot tub was the hit for the the 6 off us. Instead of going to bed, we gladly went sleepless for this.

This place has a fabulous setting! The views that the hotel guests and guests staying on the cottages on the hill have a fabulous picturesque view of the water. The cottages all looked to be of a good size. We stopped here for a short lunch as we travelled. We had friendly service and a nice selection of food. Would recommend for sure.
