The reason for our trip was to attend the World Science Fiction Convention but we added time before and after so that we could also do tourist things. We were in Helsinki for almost two weeks.
This hotel is easy to get to from the airport. You can take the train, the Finnair bus, or local buses. The hotel is near the train station and major tram lines, and there are two major shopping centers, the Stockman Department Store, many other shops and numerous restaurants within a few blocks. You are in walking distance of many tourist attractions, but public transportation is very efficient if you want to go further afield. (Ask the Tourist Information Office in the Train Station for the "Tram 2/3 Tour" brochure).
There is a 24-hour supermarket and an Alko (state-run liquor store) below the hotel,
The breakfast buffet, on the tenth floor, had a wide variety of food. I especially liked the fact that there was a large gluten-free section. A nice touch was a play area for children and special childrens' utensils. There was a nice view, and if you couldn't get a window table there was an outside balcony.
This was obviously a vintage hotel which had been remodeled but the room was clean and spacious. Free wi-fi. Desk clerks and buffet staff were always cheerful and helpful. Elevators worked well.More
