Every opera company should have audiences as appreciative as I witnessed in Stockholm. I will say that the performance of Manon Lescaut was ending in two more shows. I will also state that without a clue about the plot of this particular opera that I found it to be extremely entertaining. It had some of the best acting I have seen in an opera. The vocals were great to my untrained ear. The six enthusiastic ovations at the end were a joy to be a part of. Definitely worth the $35.

Royalty built his grand theater in the late 1700's and King Gustav III's palace was connected to it via the Norrbro Bridge. Our guide patiently answered questions about the history of the theater. Remembering that the French Revolution set the anti-regency mood, this infected other European countries to some degree.

King Gustav III was shot (and died soon after) in the theater while watching a production. The assassin was a military officer, inspired by his belief that the king was a despot. He was flogged, decapitated, and quartered.

The new king, Gustav IV, son of Gustav III, closed the theater and it was re-opened when that king was deposed.

It's an impressive building and is fronted by an equestrian statue.

So lucky to have been in a small group that had a private tour of the opera house. Such a splendid building inside and out. Unfortunately I didn't go to a public performance but so lucky to be at a private champagne performance by a fantastic baritone singer.
We were able to have a marvellous dinner as well.

Nice Opera House in a nice square. Just impossibile to be missed while walking around. Seen only from outside.

In my understanding The Royal Opera is Sweden's national stage for opera and ballet. Unfortunately we only had the chance to pass by it, just enough to admire its magnificent exterior built in the Renaissance style. If you have the time tough, check out at least the opera house`s restaurant, a quite expensive place, but offering an amazing view over the bay there Lake Malaren meets the Baltic sea.
