On the plus side, the location was good - on the waterfront and close to Nyhavn. Staff were helpful. Plenty of restaurants nearby. But there was no shelf space in the room for unpacking. The shower screen leaked large quantities of water on to the floor. The "partial harbour view" (see the hotel website) accorded the superior rooms was seriously small. Wifi in the rooms was weak. There was no milk with the in-room coffee facility. Breakfast was expensive, as was the room cost of a superior double, given its problems.

174 room hotel with great location on the main canal and 2 blocks from Nyhavn. Very near Hop On Hop Off stop. Rooms small and ok but nothing special. Larger hotel and desk staff uninterested in being helpful about local restaurants or sights. Unaware that Tivoli Gardens was closed.

I guess we were spoiled coming from Amsterdam and Hamburg, where our hotels were amazing. The Strand was unremarkably average and VERY expensive for what you get.

The room had no dresser drawers to unpack and nowhere to even open up two suitcases at the same time, except for on the bed. The room is extremely small, even by European standards.

One great thing in the shower (with both a hand-held wand and rain shower head) is that the water pressure is extremely high. But the half glass door does little to contain the water from the shower, so be prepared to use ALL the towels to mop up the floor.

The hotel doesn’t offer king size beds. Don’t be fooled in thinking that two twins pushed together are the same because the Strand’s “twins” are much narrower than usual. That also means the duvets are narrow. Both leading to very uncomfortable sleeps.

Thankfully there were two sets of drapes - sheers and black-out, so the room was dark at night. The black-outs were also important because for the units on the side, there is an office building with overlooking windows within ten feet.

We purchased breakfast with the room and regret it. The selection certainly wasn’t on par with hotels charging what they did. Very continental breakfast fare with no ability to order custom-made omelets, eggs, etc. And only by chance did I see a coffee machine behind the reception desk that made cappuccinos and lattes. Thankfully I made regular use of this (at no charge) because the brewed coffee in the breakfast room was horrible. Also, the fresh fruit (pineapple, cantaloupe, oranges and kiwi) still had their rinds on so adding them to yoghurt or on top of cereal required extra work - I think the kitchen staff were just being lazy!! What we really enjoyed, though, were the breakfast “shots” - a real wake-you-up morning juice with an abundance of ginger, cranberry and lime.

From a location perspective, the hotel is walkable from a subway station (10 minutes) and we even walked with our bags from the central train station (25 minutes). It’s also well located for walking to the central area of the city (pedestrian mall for shopping, the Queen’s Palace, City Hall, Nyhavn (iconic Copenhagen streetscape) and even the Little Mermaid.

The service staff were all very friendly and helpful.

But from a value for money perspective, paying close to CAN $500 per night, I would not recommend this hotel. The room size, poor beds and general lack of amenities just don’t warrant the cost.

Dear Richard B

Thank you for taking the time to write a review and thank you for your feedback.
First of all, we would like to thank you for your kind words about our staff.
We are sorry to hear that you were not completely satisfied with your room and we apologize for any troubles. We are looking into the possibility of having a sort of drawer system in our rooms so our guests will be able to unpack properly during their stay with us. We are happy to hear that our shower was a success even though there was some issues with draining.
You are correct and our beds are a bit narrower with twin beds being 80cm and our double beds being 160cm in our Superior Rooms but we are of course sorry that you were uncomfortable with our duvets as well. It is good to see you were able to get some sleep because of our curtains.
The kitchen in our restaurant is small and we are not able to cook many dishes but that is of course no excuse for rinds on the fruit and we will discuss this with our kitchen staff as well as your compliments on our 'shots'.

We hope you will consider staying with us again the next time you are in Copenhagen so we can give you a better experience living up to our standards.

Thank you for helping us improve and have a wonderful day.

Sincerely
Sabine Anthoni

Very conveniently situated for shopping, Nyhavn and many of the sights. We were fortunate in that the weather was fine and we walked everywhere. Staff were friendly and polite and the rooms, although small were very clean and beautifully presented. We would come again.

Stayed here for one evening. It’s nicely presented although appears to lack a certain charm or warmth. It also felt somewhat unoccupied although it may be just that my room was well insulated from the corridor.

Room was fine although a little small. Can’t comment on breakfast. Fairly convenient to walk into the city centre with some very good restaurants within 10minutes walk.
