The cave was bigger but a part of it falled down during the big earthquake.
Even so the big cruise ships enters half in it.
The legend says captain Papanikolis hided his submarin.

We didn't expect much and it lived up to our expectations. It is a hole in the cliff and that is all. Some folklore suggests it was the hiding place of a 2nd world war Greek submarine but this seems unlikely as the cave is not big enough lengthwise to accommodate a submarine and it would be smashed against the rocks if it stayed there for any length of time. It was fine for a small interlude on a day cruise but not worth a special trip.

Our large boat just nosed in to the cave so there was not much point unless your were at the prow, but it was only a stop between swims.

The title sums it up.
Don't get me wrong, as a cave it doesn't need to be a razzle dazzle theme park attraction, but it is just a small unremarkable cave.
We swung by this on a boat trip and not even the enigmatic story of a heroic Greek submarine captain hiding out here to intercept German naval ships during WWII really brought it to life.
Frankly, it is a very small cave and the only submarine I could see fitting into it to hide would be the Yellow one crewed by the Beatles....

I did it as a part of a nice day trip to Kefalonia and Ithaka. The cave as such is a waste of time. So, if you plan a trip by rental boat only to this cave, forget it. It's annoyingly boring. You do not see anything but a hole in the wall. Spend your time elsewhere;)
