“Our special wedding day”
Reviewed 24 September 2009

We visited the beautiful island of Kefalonia last year and loved it so much, we decided to go back and get married there and we did just that on 14th September 09.

Anyone looking to get married in kefalonia and thinks they can arrange a wedding themselves, as we did, it could have all gone horribly wrong, It was only out of chance that we had meet Donna (A wedding Planner) in a florist 5 days before the wedding who arrange everything, without Donna our wedding would have been a disaster, but it was absolutley prefect . You can find Donna at - www.kefalonia-weddings.co.uk.

“Islanders with an attitude”
Reviewed 27 August 2009

My husband and I spent two weeks in July on Cephalonia. We stayed in the small family owned apartment hotel Lazaratos on the way from Lixouri to Variko, but drove around the island and also visited neighboring Ithaca.
Cephalonia is an island with beautiful nature (not as beautiful as Zakinthos, but still worth seeing).
Overall impression is that people there are still not used to tourists. You cannot find many good taverns (restaurants with local food). The local people are usually rude to tourists. They can leave you waiting for a waiter to take your order for 20 minutes in coffee shops in the capital Argostoli, or give you back change in Turkish liras instead of Euros, hoping that you wouldn’t notice. In shops, they are not accustomed to say hello when you enter and goodbye on your way out, no matter how much cash you just left there. Also, if you like a bit of shopping alongside your beach holiday activities, opt for another island, like nearby Zakinthos or Corfu.
On the other hand, the family who owns the Lazaratos was extremely nice and helpful. They have greeted us with homemade sour cherry juice and sliced watermelon. They were helping us with the car rental, giving ideas and directions for sightseeing… However, if you end up in Cephalonia, don’t miss visiting Ithaca. It’s a small Island that you can only get to by boat or helicopter, with stunning nature, secluded beaches with clear water, picturesque ports and villages. People there, to our surprise because of the vicinity to Cephalonia, are very nice and friendly and there are also some nice coffee shops, restaurants and souvenir shops. Tip for breakfast; make sure you don't miss the spinach pie in bakeries of Vathy.

“The Beauty of Kefalonia”
Reviewed 8 August 2009

We chose to visit Kefalonia last summer because of a sheer love of the Ionian islands of greece. We had such an amazing time!! The beautiful turquiose blue sea, the golden sand and the mountain views really made our holiday. We stayed in a villa that had great living space and a large pool out the back. our pool looked over mount Soros and a bay with fishing town about 10 miles away. The villas also had acess the a small platform down at the bottom of the cliff which was excellent for snorkeling. There was a small cave which you could swim under there were a wide range of fish and the occasional octopus! We vistited two caves on the island, Melissani and Drogarati. I preferred Melissani, but only because i enjoyed the small boat ride on the lagoon looking up at the blue sky! We also visited many of the small greek towns and were delighted by the family owned tavernas. If all this isn't a big enough reason to go there, the fact that the greek people are so friendly and welcoming is enough of a reason to go to any greek island for me!!!!!!

“Sailing from Fiskardo, Kefalonoa”
Reviewed 17 July 2009

We purchased a sailing holiday with Ionian Holidays that set off from Fiskardo on the North of Kefalonia and after a weeks sailing returned to Fiskaro for a week in apartments overlooking Fiskardo harbour.
A beautiful location full of picture [postacrd harbours and scenery.

The only negative was how relatively expensive Greece has become with the poor sterling euro exchange rate.
