“Much better than we expected!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 June 2012

We hoped for the usual Greek 3 star hotel - usually one more than it would rate in UK, but were very pleased to find a hotel that was up to 3 star standard, and in some aspects better. Our room, 306, had a reasonable sized balcony, plenty of room for the 2 chairs and table. It was lit and had a perfect view of the sea and harbour. The room was a very reasonable size, and had all the usual hotel fittings - good sized wardrobe, large bed-settee etc....Good size bathroom with marble basin surround, always plenty of hot water and good pressure for the shower! Aircon was quiet and had a working remote.
Breakfast was better than many of the hotels we have visited in Greece and Turkey, a good selection of hot and cold food, with a selection of fruit,Yoghurts and cereals.
Staff were without exception friendly and helpful and a pleasure to deal with.
Room cleaning and pool cleaning were excellent.
We enjoyed our stay here very much. We havent been to Crete for some years and previosly usually stayed in Chania, but being closer to the centre of the island was much better for exploring. We certainly intend to return to this hotel, its position and standard of comfort would be very hard to beat for the price.
Car hire was expensive at 40Eur. per day - might be cheaper to book in the UK.
A large ring doughnut at Arkady monastry cost 4Eur!!! Food was otherwise about the same cost as UK, but we were disapointed with the quality, it was always edible but even Greek specialty dishes were not good as we are used to in Bristol.

Room Tip: Ground floor rooms dont have a good view.

We selected this hotel through Thomas Cook and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The staff were friendly and helpful nd the standard of the breakfast was very good with a choice of hot and cold food. The pool although small was clean and kept quit cold which I enjoy. This is not a hotel for children though and I would not advise bringing children here as ther is nothing for them to do apart from the small pool. There are plenty of other hotels more united to their needs. This hotel is situated next to the old Fort in the middle of the Old Town and ideally suited for walks through the town at night to eat in one of te ny small family run restaurants. The best beach is not the first one to the right of the hotel, walk to the next each, it is larger with enter facilities. Suffice to say we are returning this year in three weeks for another week at the Ideon

Room Tip: There may be some noise from the nightclubs near the hotel which you may hear in the front sea view...

Just returned from having spent a week at this hotel. Our room had a balcony with a sea view and was big enough although the bath was a bit small on the small side. The room was cleaned daily and the hotel was clean and well kept throughout. The staff were friendly and helpful and the self service breakfast was adequate.
It was a bit noisy during the early hours from the nearby bars but not enough to spoil the holiday.
You have to pay one euro fifty a day for the safe key with a five euro returnable deposit looking at how old the safe is it must must be worth its weight in gold.
Its a great location to the nearby fort and the old town and we would stay here again.

Room Tip: I would suggest if you are a light sleeper I would opt for a room at the back of the hotel.

Nice hotel situated in the old town of Rethymno, close to the Venetian harbor and lots of good restaurants and shops. Quite new and simple hotel with all you need of appliances and ammenities. Nice back garden with pool and sunbeds. Breakfast served in the lobby and outside, but the selection could have been better and so could the service of the staff. Small uncomfortable beds, but a nice balcony.

We (2 adults and a 4 year old) visited the Ideon in Sept 2011. On arrival in the early hours of the morning, we were given our room key and tiredly proceeded to our room. We requested a pool view (a year in advance) but were greeted with walls and rooftops (from what we could see in the dark) and also no where for our daughter to sleep! After complaining to the reception, the sofa was made up into a bed and we were told to see reception in the morning although the hotel was full. After a further complaint to our rep, we were moved to the 3rd floor with a pool view and a bed for our daughter.

After our initial glitch, we enjoyed the rest of our holiday.

The hotel was a good 3*, nothing more, nothing less. The rooms were smallish and the beds not the comfiest but adequate. The cleaning staff did a goodish job, if you don't look under the bed.

The staff at breakfast were fantastic, especially Sophia and always greeted us with a smile and the food was good too, a great start to the day.

The hotels location is fantastic, right on the edge of the old town and a 10-15 minute walk from the beach. The pool is small, but we only spent a couple of days there as we always enjoy the beach.

Overall, we enjoyed our holiday, but unfortunately would not return to the hotel, just not our cup of tea!

Room Tip: The sea view rooms looked nice.
