Our stay At Villa Chrysa was probably the best vacation we have ever had. This villa has everything a couple or small family could possibly want. From the amazing traditional Cretan architecture of the villa itself, to the modern pool and stone sundeck surrounding the house, this place makes you feel like royalty!
Everything has been methodically thought out. The layout is fantastic. The kitchen is large and easy to move around in. Preparing meals was a snap. The villa has everything you'll need to prepare delicious food. There’s plenty of places in nearby Georgioupoli, a resort town a few km away, to by groceries and supplies.
The living-room is large and well laid out. The windows have views of the sea and the resort towns below as well as the gorge right next to the villa. Watching the goats and sheep maneuver up and down the steep cliffs was very entertaining. We even saw a goat climb 20 feet up into a tree to eat it’s fruit. Very bizarre!
The master bedroom was gorgeous. The stone walls and bright, high vaulted ceiling made it feel majestic. The bed was comfortable, a bit firm but it seems that’s the case in all of Greece. I suppose us North Americans are spoiled with our box springs and pillow-top mattresses. The room even has a private balcony that overlooks the sea. Amazing! We ran the a/c because it was 35c daily while we were there. Didn’t need it downstairs at night because of the cool mountain breezes. The second bedroom is perfect for 2 kids of any age. Lots of room and storage space in either bedroom.
The private pool and deck are to die for. If you got to warm, just jump right in… cooled down instantly with no effort! Wherever you move around the pool deck the view changes. To the north and west is the gorge and the sea. To the east you can see the distant Ida Mountain Range near Rethymnon. Directly south, behind the villa you can see the Lefka Ori (White Mountains). These mountains are unbelievable, almost 9,000 feet high towering over the villa. It feels like you can reach out and touch them even though they’re at least 30 km away. Being from Canada, these mountains were as impressive as the Rockies, though obviously not as long a range. We spent a few different days driving around, hiking and visiting quaint little villages in these mountains. The people of Crete are so kind! They are what will keep us coming back!
The beach is literally a 5 minute drive down the hill. The water was cool and refreshing even in August. Very nice indeed! Chania, Crete’s second city is about a 30 minute drive away and is one of the most beautiful Venetian port cities you’ll ever see. Lots of good restaurants and great shopping. Don’t miss the leather district. Great deals on everything leather. Being the son of a WWII vet, we visited the Commonwealth War Cemetery in Souda Bay. There lies 2000 brave soldiers from the UK, New Zealand, Australia and Canada that died helping defend Crete from the Nazi’s. We were very moved. The Cretan’s keep the cemetery immaculate. Thank you!
Thank you to our hosts, Stefanos and Chrysa. Your villa is just fantastic. We highly recommend it! We hope to return again some day. I can’t say it enough… the people of Crete have to be some of the friendliest and kindest people on earth. God bless you all!
